Tropical Storm Down Grade

It looks as if our area of NC will be hit with a Tropical Storm instead of the full wrath of Hurrican Florence. This is a major blessing for our area but I pray for everyone in NC and SC. Florence seems to be taking a different path and we are still receiving 67+ mph winds and at least 9 to 10 inches of rain but that is nothing compared to the Hurrican levels hitting the coast. The poor coastal town of Wilmington is going to be slammed hard and it seems as if the storm is going to linger there for several hours, then it will cut a path through SC. I am certain we will lose power and possibly be in flood zone area. My neighbor told me that during Hurricane Matthew in 2016 our house had standing water up to the steps and the electric was out for 21 days. Anyone out there who is sending positive thoughts and prayers, it is much appreciated. Here is a link to one of the local forecasts. https://www.wral.com/weather/hurricanes/video/17838080/

We just had two brown outs within minutes of each other. I'm in Winston Salem, you are south of me aren't you? I need to check the local radar. I have Sling TV and it doesn't show me local weather so I'll have to look online.

Last year, I was in the direct path of Hurricane Irma, and I don't know how I got so lucky, but I never lost power the entire time. Everywhere else around me lost power, but for some reason mine stayed on the whole time. I was able to provide people with ice and water, and even let people hang out in my house for periods of time to enjoy the cool air conditioning.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I hope you guys didn't get much. We got blasted by the hurricane. Fortunately we only had a roof leak, other folks lost their homes.

@moffittjc That was real nice of you. Our power went out for several days. It was funny because right up the street they had power the entire time. It was ok until the storm blew over and it got hotter than Hades!

I have the east coast in my prayers, there's been way too many killer hurricanes you guys need a break. I hope all will be well for you and your family.

You're in my prayers. You haven't marked yourself save on Facebook yet and I see it's been a couple of days since you've posted here. If you can post, there are people concerned about you. I have several online friends in the area, and they and all the others in the Carolinas are in my prayers.

Don't count on anything--hurricanes (and Mother Nature) are very fickle--said by a guy who has lived through them since 1956 and see cones changing, the severity of hurricanes change and aware that weathercasters are not always right! I suggest be prepared with water, batteries, non-perishable foods and a hand can opener--what you don't use now you can always use later.

Hope that you've come through just fine. I am still worried about a couple of people I know who I haven't heard from yet.

All I can say is that I hope this storm turns out to be way less than what was anticipated. Stay safe.
