I am always amazed at how I, along with many other people, can hear a song you haven't heard in years and you still know every word. I remember the words to songs from as long ago as 50 to 55 years. It is amazing. I can remember every single word and note of the song. They bring back memories of times when I was a teen and dating. They bring back happy memories of times gone by. You can visualize people, places, things, and activities. Music for me brings back the clearest memories out of anything I know. Does music do this for you?

There must be something about our brains that helps us remember words set to music better than just written words. I guess that's why so many commercials on TV have musical jingles to make us remember the product.

I learned in 8th grade how to follow a drop of blood from the heat, around the body and back again. How? My teacher taught us a song about it. It certainly came in handy when I went to college and took Anatomy and Physiology.

This is true and this is the reason why some songs make me very sad, they remind bad moments of my life.

Some songs remind me of sad times in my life even if the songs themselves are not sad.

I tend to lose things like scissors, nail clippers, screwdrivers, and favorite pens.I have something like six pairs of scissors here, but the gremlins hoard them.

I had a kids song run through my mind a couple days ago and I remembered every word and hadn't sung it since I was a kid. It always amazes me when I can do that. I think it helps keep the brain alive and active.

I do the same thing. I try to strengthen the memory by listening to old songs. It is amazing how much you can remember.

That happens to me too. Or I'll find myself singing something random like Time of the Season by the Zombies (from my late childhood) and be able to remember almost all of the words..."what's you're name/who's your daddy?/is he rich?/is he rich like me?"

@TheHorse I was going to say I hadn't heard that song or the group, but the words are a different story. I have heard those words before.

Yes, I can remember all the words to some songs. I don't always visualise people and places associated with them though.

@HazySue I think so too. It helps in other areas as well. When I was working with a 'troubled" 13-year-old client, I was able to accurately describe how he/I felt when "the girl you like best is walking toward you and you try to look cool but you actually feel a bit weak in the knees." He said, "How did you know???" It opened up a discussion about how to treat girls.

@TheHorse That is wonderful. I think many times we can make a connection with them using music lyrics.
