Drumroll Please! It's Finally Finished!

It's taken me twenty two months. There was a fair amount of unpicking and resewing. Sometimes I wanted to throw in the towel and just make a smaller quilt. I persevered. Each of the 150, six inch squares was pieced and assembled into the finished quilt top. Each block represents on Canadian woman who made a difference. As each square was made, we read about these women. One day spent with the long arm quilt machine and another two evenings sewing the binding, before I could make my big announcement. Now it is finally finished. The resulting quilt is 86 inches wide, by 107 inches long. The only place to take a photograph showing the entire quilt was on my clothesline. Hubby thoughtfully helped me hang it, photograph it, and bring it back into the house.

Well, you persistence paid off. The quilt is fantastic! 'Discipline is the bridge between goals and accomplishment'.- Jim Rohn

In this case I think some of it was stubbornness more than discipline,

@Morleyhunt Stubbornness can be a useful tool to push you toward your goal. Looks like that stubbornness to succeed at your project really paid off!

I'm certainly happy with the final quilt. There was a lot of taking out and redoing involved.

I have an entire binder (actually two) filled with these women's stories, as well as the patterns. The woman who put all this together did an amazing job.

I haven't decided if it's my favourite, but it's definitely in the running for the top five. I've made so many over the years. I wish I had taken photos of all of them.

@Morleyhunt it would be nice if you had taken pictures and had them all to look at now. It would have made a nice little scrapbook

My grandmother never made a quilt in her life. My mother made many....I never received one, so, when my dad passed away, I snagged one for myself.

I used a large bedsheet to play around with the arrangement. It was hanging on the wall, many I pinned pieces, and moved them until I was satisfied. Then they were sewn together.

The red and white are the colours of the Canadian flag. Some of the fabrics feature small flags, and many encompass maple leaves.
