Because of our support of Katie Porter in her run for the US House of Representatives from our California district, CA45, my husband and I were invited to attend a campaign rally for her, several other candidates, and the future governor of California, Gavin Newsom. Gavin Newsom, his wife Jennifer, and their three cute children were all standing just inches from us at the rally, since we were given front row seats because my husband cannot stand for long periods of time. I even offered to hold the Newsom's little boy on my lap when he started acting up, but they were afraid he would make a fuss. It was a wonderful event! We were able to shake hands with the future governor and his wife, and chat with the other candidates. These types of events are wonderful for Democracy. The photo above shows Congressional Candidate Katie Porter, Jennifer Newsom (future First Lady of California) and Gavin Newsom (future governor of California) holding the youngest of their three children.

That must have been exciting. I see the little boy is looking unhappy.

@RubyHawk - They had all three of their kids with them and this was the third campaign event they had been to that day. I'm sure the little boy was exhausted. Campaigning has to be tough on the children! He couldn't be old enough to understand why he is being dragged around all day. To make things worse, it was about 95 degrees in the warehouse where the event was being held!

@DeborahDiane Those poor little kids, I think I'd have hired a baby sitter. I'm surprised they didn't have a nanny to take care of them.

@RubyHawk - I mentioned that to some friends recently, that the Newsom's should have had a baby sitter or nanny with them. My friend pointed out that some people might have been critical of them for having their children raised by a nanny (although I am sure they have one.) I guess it is hard for politicians to win in the public eye, no matter what they do. I hope they had comfortable accommodations on their bus for the kids, between stops.

Hells Yeah that guy is neat. I know he is far from perfect but when you can sound like Matthew Mcconaughey and a politician that make sense most of the time. If that is not a winning ticket I do not know what is. Besides if Democrats can't win this year they deserve to be out of power forever. Democrat socialist is not a bad thing and actually improves your life more than you know and lets me show you examples. That guy over there, those people over there care nothing about our country and actually sold out to Russia a long time a go for money. Some would say that is treason and they are traitors, but I believe in freedom and you decide for yourself. You want things to work or would you like to be a Russian citizen. If democrats cannot sell that then they deserve to lose.

@crossbones27 - I agree that if Democrats cannot sell themselves as the better party this year, they are doing a terrible job of promoting themselves.

@crossbones27 - I agree. I like the Parkland kids. They are out there really fighting to change things in this country. Young David Hogg keeps Tweeting "The Young People will Win." I tend to agree with him. Maybe they are the generation which will make some real changes!

@DeborahDiane Wow think you are a 100% supporter of this man. Maybe he really did something good in your country in the past. Sorry I haven't done my reasearch about this candidate. But anyway I hope everything will be fine. God bless.

Yes, I hope they have the right heart to serve the people of our state, too. Who knows? After California, he could run for President!

@luisadannointed - He used to be the Mayor of San Francisco. I think he will be a good governor of California, although it is a complicated state and there is a lot he will have to do.

For me personally this guy is a whacko. I wish California all the best. I mean, he did SO well for San Francisco, the cesspool that it is.

@porwest - You make a good point about the decline in San Francisco. The homelessness and disintegration of that city is heartbreaking to see. However, like Newsom or not, his opponent doesn't have a chance. The taint of Trump sank him before he began.

@porwest - Where do you live? You certainly have limited understanding of California. It is the 5th largest economy in the world and the United States would not be in the top five if it were not for California. California is the economic engine of the country. Yes, it is liberal. Yes, it is expensive. Yes, we have too many homeless, which we are working to resolve. Yes, we have had politicians make poor decisions. But, it is a beautiful state. Most people who live here love it. It is both the richest and the poorest state in the union, depending on where you look. We grow half the fruit, vegetables and nuts consumed in the United States. Our ports give access to most of the products which come here from Asia. Most of the tech companies were started here in the area near Stanford and Berkeley. You can run California down all you want, but the rest of the US would be a mess if it were not for California, since we are a net exporter of taxes. In other words, we send tax money to the federal government to help the rest of the country. Without us, the poverty in other parts of the US would be even worse. Why would anyone knock the state which does so much for the rest of the country?

@DeborahDiane California IS a beautiful state and I have lived there. San Diego to be exact. But it's extreme liberal policies on illegal immigration, taxes, universal health care, higher minimum wage, high taxes and liberal policies which raise taxes even more, environmental CAFE standards and clean energy standards are all very costly, and very harmful policies both for its citizens and the United States as a whole. We'll just agree to disagree. California politically is a very bad place in the country with dangerous, deadly, and costly policies. If you want to see a success story, look at Wisconsin. California doesn't even come close.
