How Low Can People Be

Like many other people, I have been glued to the television watching all the reports about the hurricane in the south east. It is bad enough what everyone is going through but I just saw on tv about the people that broke into a store and was taking so many items out of there.
I think it is a disgrace that people can stoop so low to do something like this. On the news we actually saw a person running from the store with her arms filled with items and threw them in her car.
What the heck is wrong with people.

It's hard to imagine that such people exist, but they do!

It dont surprise me at all. Some people stay in a storm area just to have the chance to steal.

Because people loot stores and shops when there is a disaster because they are easier to steal from during those times. Just like when there are riots people will do the same. Very sad.

It is so sad that people would take advantage of shops and other people when they are in their worst time of life ... I hope they are prosecuted

@TheHorse Looting by burglary can be a misdemeanor or a felony in the USA. Here in Canada it is the same thing as "theft" so depends on how much the items were worth monetarily - over $5000 has stiffer penalties.

My brother was just telling me about 3 mobile homes that was broken into last night. I guess who every it was thought it was a good opportunity ,while everyone was away at the storm shelter.

I see a few things like that here also.
They probably never learned to respect other people and firstly they donĀ“t respect themselves doing that kind of thing either.
Do they get picked up and arrested after or what?

What a pity if they did get picked up they just might stop doing things like that.l
The irony of having your shop damaged by natural things and the others taking everything they can find.

@lovinangelsinstead21 You are exactly right. I understand that they did not even get caught as the officials were to busy with all the rains and down trees. Looks like they knew what they were doing.

That is terrible that people take advantage of a situation that is both dangerous and tragic.

@BearArtistLady I can understand you totally. My sister is very evil and nasty. My mother always asked where she came from and how two girls could be so different. I have always been happy that I am the good one. My sister and I do not speak any longer. I bit my tongue as long as I could when my dad was still alive as I didn't want him upset. After he passed and we sold the house I have never seen her again and I don't plan on it either.

@ramapo17 It makes me wonder about the morals of the people's parents. Part of parenting is teaching your children about right and wrong and that you reach out and help your fellow man rather than stealing from them during a disaster like the storm.
My parents tried to teach my brother those morals. It didn't take hold. He was an awful person from day one and it never changed. He would steal from the neighbors and my friends homes. He was cruel to animals, he was brutal to me...the best day of my life was the day that he moved out of the house permanently. I, at times, wished that I had the courage and ability to be as awful as he was and turn on him and beat the living daylights out of him. It never happened, I'm too soft hearted to beat the daylights out of someone. I also am the kind of person that would step in and try to stop the looting rather than stand back and watch it happen.

Maybe if we started shooting the looters, or arresting them and taking them to jail, the message would get out and the low-lifes would stop doing it.

@ramapo17 That's because everyone is afraid of getting sued these days.

@moffittjc It is so bad but that is true. People sue each other for every little thing. How was I 95 by you during the hurricane? I hear some of it is still closed in NC. We are going up to NJ next week to see my grandson before he ships out to the middle east. I haven't seen him in almost 2 years and I really hate it. He was always "my baby". Hahaha. Of course he is 6'3" and the real baby is 6"4". I am really going to be short next to them.

Isn't that awful @Shivram59? The people are going through enough and to have these low life people doing such a thing. Luckily there were not any others that I saw but I am sure there were some.

People like those who committed this crime are being raised to believe that committing a crime isn't wrong, only getting caught is wrong. They have no moral compass or ethical basis to help them develop a conscience. I knew far too many people like this when I taught public middle school in impoverished neighborhoods.
