Day 25 Luke 8:4 And when much people were gathered together, and were come to him out of every city, he spoke by a parable: 5 A sower went out to sow his seed: and as he sowed, some fell by the wayside; and it was trodden down, and the fowls of the air devoured it. 6 And some fell upon a rock; and as soon as it was sprung up, it withered away, because it lacked moisture. 7 And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprang up with it, and choked it. 8 And other fell on good ground, and sprang up, and bear fruit a hundredfold. And when he had said these things, he cried, He that hath ears to hear, let him hear. 9 And his disciples asked him, saying, What might this parable be? 10 And he said, Unto you it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God: but to others in parables; that seeing they might not see, and hearing they might not understand. 11 Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God. 12 Those by the wayside are they that hear; then comes the devil, and takes away the word out of their hearts, lest they should believe and be saved. 13 They on the rock are they, which, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, which for a while believe, and in time of temptation fall away. 14 And that which fell among thorns are they, which, when they have heard, go forth, and are choked with cares and riches and pleasures of this life, and bring no fruit to perfection. 15 But that on the good ground are they, which in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, keep it, and bring forth fruit with patience. All of us have multiple layers to our personality. We take what we hear with a grain of salt, or we test it – searching out the facts, or we accept it at face value. What kind of person are you? Jesus told the people a parable. A parable is an earthly story with a heavenly meaning. This parable about a sower was one the people could identify with because they all sowed seed to grow crops, and they knew that not all seed fell on good ground. It landed on a path and birds came and took it away. It fell among rocks, but it didn’t have any depth, it fell among thorns, and was choked, and it fell on good ground and produced a good crop. As Christians, you know faith is like that seed. The Sower is God who sows His seed – His Word, and people will either accept it or reject it. It takes faith to believe what God’s Word tells you. It takes faith not to allow someone to come along and talk you out of what you believe. It takes faith not to allow the cares of the world to tear at what you believe. It takes faith to pick up your Bible daily, read it, study it, and learn what you can, asking God to teach you His Word. God will teach you if you ask Him. 2 Timothy 2:15 Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. Along with faith you need prayer. Prayer keeps you in God’s Word and keeps you focused so the world will not come and take it away from you. As Christians, someone sowed the Word in your life, and you allowed it to grow. How well is it growing? What kind of fruit are you producing? Let’s pray: Father, let your Word sink deep in the good ground of my life where the world will not be able to snatch it from me. Help me produce fruit in my life as you teach me. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen. Copyright © 16 September 2018 by Valerie Routhieaux Image courtesy of Pixabay

In today's modern world, it is so easy for Christians to get wrapped up in all the craziness going on around them, and as much as they think they are staying true to the Word, slowly get drawn away as they get bogged down in their day-to-day life. It's easy for the Word to erode away slowly over time if we let it; now, more than ever, we need to focus on God's word to get us through these crazy times on this planet.

@just4him Too many people today let the crap going on in the world take control of their lives. That's part of the reason why I don't ever pay attention to the news...I am a naturally happy and positive person, and I don't want anyone or anything to change that.

@moffittjc I don't pay attention to it either. Too depressing. I get the gist of what's happening, right here.

Absolutely! I don't know where I would be if I let the world take over. I'm glad I don't need to find out. Have a blessed day.

One of my favorite parables - easy to understand and relate to people in everyday life.
