Just When We Thought It Was Over

It was a long night. We were awakened by Tornado Warnings Twice and I lost count of the Flash Flood Warnings.
We've had heavy rain and thunderstorms for the last several hours. According to the local TV station, at least one tornado did touch down near us.
The heavy rain has caused the creek near our house to flood again. The photo is of the road at 6:34am this morning.
The good news is we still have power.
I see the center of Florence has moved into southwestern Virginia. She has been spreading havoc and disaster all along her path through the mountains. Please pray for all those affected by the storm.

I am glad you are safe, this was one monster of a slow moving storm.

@DWDavis The fact that is stalled was the killer, we usually get ones with massive winds and lots of damage but not that amount of rain.

@BelleStarr One of the towns settled by my ancestors, Chinquapin, NC is completely flooded and another, New Bern, is mostly flooded. I know the damage to my hometown of Wilmington is extensive and I haven't been able to find out much about Wrightsville Beach as yet.

@thislittlepennyearns I went into work for about 5 hours. Because of the rising river levels, we had to cancel school again tomorrow. I'll probably go in for another 1/2 day. The upside is, I'm getting lots of planning and prep work done.

Yes, I will..sorry to hear this..as Flo passes North I am expecting a rather bad day today, although the mountains are a ways off. They said it should be all over by Tuesday afternoon though.

Glad you're doing okay with the storm but holy mackerel tornado warnings on top of it would make me very very anxious.

@Morleyhunt Here's hoping nothing keeps the roofers from getting done with your roof.

@DWDavis the first rains from the remnants of Florence should reach us today. This will be a test for our new roof. The shingling should be completed this morning.

Right where I am we were spared all but the inconvenience of a day without power. In other areas, people's lives have been devastated. One of my students grandparents got the news their house on the Trent River near New Bern will have to be demolished because the water rose so high and the mold is already 3/4 of the way up their walls.

I'll bet nobody in North Carolina will be naming a baby girl "Florence" for a while. They might even make the city of Florence, SC change its name.
I'm thankful you made it through the storm. Continue to stay safe in the rising water.

I'm fortunate that we're not near the river and my route to work shouldn't be impacted by the rising water. We have cancelled school for tomorrow as many of our teachers can't make it in yet due to the high and getting higher water.

I know a lot of businesses closer to the coast are still closed. Here, several were open for business today but schools remain closed. With the rising river levels, some of the businesses that had opened are likely to wind up closed again.

Glad all is ok now. That storm is an angry one. Thinking of all still in the path.
