The world keeps changing

I remember when every classroom had a globe and it was frequently used.
Then countries began rebelling and dividing, or even just changing names.
I think it is a metaphor for how our own personal lives and worlds change.
I did find this old globe to be really attractive at the Mill Sale we went to on Saturday.
Do you have a globe?

We do have a globe, its on a stand.
Our son picked it out for a Christmas gift for Daddy when our son was about 3 or 4 years old. Of course to him it was a ball on a stand.
Now he has a collection of globes. Different sizes, colours and styles.

@GardenGerty Thanks, and I remember it like it was yesterday.
When we down-sized last year, he actually thought that the globe was his, but my husband was quick to remind him that it was not.

I would love to take apart high quality outdated atlases and use the pages as matting for pictures.

@JudyEv When we put a border or background on pictures we refer to it as matting. I also would be interested in them as framed on their own.

@GardenGerty What do you mean 'as matting'? It's interesting to see really old atlases like my sister's old school atlas from around 1947. Half the world it seems was in the colour of the 'commonwealth' therefore British,

I used to. Now that the kids are grown I let it go.

I did have one. I'm not sure what happened to it.

I think it is for two reasons. Everyone wants to be digital for one thing. Another thing is countries keep changing boundaries and names and it is hard to keep up.

@gardengerty Oh I do love globes and maps. I remember when Ceylon changed its name to Sri Lanka when I was an early teen and I worried that I would never remember such a name. Same went for Bangladesh and Zimbabwe. I was a child living in Nyasaland when it changed its name to Malawi 2 weeks after I got there - very disconcerting

Oh my, yes it would be unnerving to see the world change so quickly.

I do not think we used them much, but they were always there. I remember sixth grade, even where it was in the room and one of the kids talking about Vietnam.
