A velvety moth

I am always looking out photographic opportunities for Vince, my husband, as often he simply won’t see something that I think would make a great photo . So I have taken on the role of making sure he knows about a potential subject. I know many myLotters are keen on the natural world and the living things that inhabit it. I thought you might be interested in a photo of moth I saw the other day. I found it clinging to a rope of twinkly lights after our last concert so I carefully transferred it to a twig and called Vince. I don’t know what sort it is but it is very furry, also like velvet. Can you see the fan-like structures that are its feelers and the banded legs? It looks like it has football socks on.

@judyev Now the problem I had with this was that I read it as velvety mouth and I was wondering what you had been up to. Now that all is clear I concur that this moth is indeed of appealing aspect.

@xFiacre That's it exactly. You took the words right out of my velvety mouth.

It's a beautiful moth. I'm glad it allowed you to transfer it to a twig and gave you the opportunity to call Vince and get a picture of it.

It was down in the paddock and I thought it would be gone when we went back later but it was still there.

I do not know the name of this moth, but it really looks as it is made with velvet.

JJ says it is an Emperor Gum moth and it certainly seems to be right.

I think this is what we call "mariposa" a big kind of beautiful butterfly. So majestic to see.

Sometimes it relates also to fairies.

He surely is a lovely colored moth and yes the texture looks just like velvet. I was thinking what a lovely creature. The marvel of nature.

That is a very unusual looking moth. They don't have them in these parts. I almost got the photo of a deer yesterday standing close to the car..but of course as I was trying to get a closer shot..he skampered off.

They have a habit of doing that don't they? Like birds. Mostly they don't hang around for too long.

You certainly have eyes that discern beauty. Undoubtedly you both are made for each other.

Thank you. I think a lot of men don't really 'see' at times.

Oh that is nice. never seen one like that before. maybe because of the weather that they have to wear something for the cold too. Some sort of a jacket for them.

You captured a beautiful picture of that moth and he does look very velvety. I've never seen anything like this moth just the typical ones who flutter around the outside light at night.

It does look soft. We have had a lot of butterflies and moths this summer. WOnder if it has anything to do with the rainier season?
