And to my surprise, I found I have majority of them..
That said, I do not fancy such things..groan.
They gotta do better than that...otherwise, people like me would have to stop playing with kids.
In fact, that might be good idea as it will become identification of such people easier. It is heartening to note that their brain is slightly different...

Yeah...I may not be playing with toys but I love playing scrabble and boggle. My hobbies that kids are aware of ...are singing, sketching and coin collection. Pretty much like kids, right? Makes me wonder what the mothers of the kids I play with think. I know once I was teaching my prince charming (another characteristic groan) numbers using playing cards and his mother came slowly in without me realizing. Another time I made something for him and was feeding him...she came from behind...honestly I did nothing wrong to her kids or any kids and do not have any such feelings. But now I am scared what others must think about me.

I don't know what qualifications this blogger has but it seems rather simplistic. I think one thing is that many pedophiles have also been victims which is something that should be considered.

"They also typically have intelligence that’s either slightly above or slightly below average. It’s uncertain as to why this is, but scientists did note that pedophiles tend to have different brain structures than regular people. With more research, they may be able to find out what causes these differences - and curb pedophilia altogether."
Pure BS, in the pure tradition of Lombroso and his "born criminal". It was 150 years ago, and his theories have been proven false before WW1, but it did not dissuaded a few scientists to continue to work on that, in Nazi Germany, in South Africa under the apartheid, and now in the USA with DNA analysis. It would perhaps be "very heartening to note that their brain is slightly different" than yours, but for the moment not a study has been able to demonstrate that there was something like a born-criminal.

@vandana7 No I am saying that pedophiles have not a different brain than others. Your supreme court has just made homosexuality legal in your country, but 2000 years ago pederasty, which mixes homosexuality and pedophilia was part of the Greek and Roman cultures. Considering something moral or not is cultural, criminals have the same brain than others, just different moral values, it is why all studies to detect "born" criminals have failed.

Over the years, I have become circumspect with regard to showing affection to kids.
I was known as one who the kids like to be with but that carries a negative tag now.
I still like to play with them but make sure their parents are around.
This was never an issue in my younger days and I feel the world has become much poorer with kids not getting the love and affection that are normal human sentiments.

The few bad apples is kinda...I have known 7-8? They have always been around Shiva...only thing in the past, parents were not brave enough to admit it....did not believe it and said you are just imagining. I must have been lucky because I was in hostel. The girls don't press charges because they cannot find suitable matches. Only the modern educated woman is accepting the possibility and deciding to get her child justice.

@vandana7 Some might have got away with it but even in places where it was taboo to even talk about it, people have rallied to highlight abuses like what is happening now. Earlier they were akin to God himself but now they are plain human!
Still, I cannot imagine child abuses that are happening now around the world and the wars that kill them - siva

@arunima25 I am distancing myself from my neighbors. They need to differentiate whom they can trust and whom they can't. Children are so trusting. They see a good neighbor, they think all will be like them. I don't want them to think like that.

Quite informative and it shows that at times, identifying such people is tough. Yet too friendly folks could be more dangerous.
And I try to socialize less as I think more socializing can be riskier for one and one's family.

Like what I always say to my male friends if they can avoid touching kids while taking pictures, avoid.

@vandana7 yes, I am not saying that they are, but better safe than sorry, my bf as a teacher and foreigner here I always remind that if his taking picture with the students he should make sure that his hands are showing on the picture. so there will be no problem.

It's scary to think they can be ordinary people. Some people I know have some of those characteristics, but not all of them.

Hmm, what are the characteristics of pedophiles? I'm wondering why this kind of people exist.
Awhile ago I was also reading the cases of battered husband/men. There are so many cases, it said, but won't come out because of ego being tagged as macho and many of the victims think its inappropriate to report this kind of incidents.

No...it is inability to have power over an adult that makes them use children and enjoy the power...I would say every dominating and demanding male is a suspect. The guy should be open to reasoning. Likewise, every guy who has no self control over the way spends or behaves should be suspected.
