Wrong Number!

How often do you get a wrong number call and how often do you call a wrong number?. Ten or fifteen years ago I would receive at least two each day, but these days I hardly ever get any -not that I mind - some of those calls could be rather disconcerting. I remember informing one caller that he had the wrong number, but he didn't seem in a hurry to hang up. He asked me my name and I told him "have a nice day" - and ended the call. He called back immediately and in a very rough tone asked me why I cut him off. I again ended the call and turned my phone off for the next three hours. I wasn't being rude, but I saw no reason why I should give him my name or continue to converse. Have you ever received weird calls on your phone?

That must have been not a silent but a noisy admirer. Or perhaps he knew who you were.

I do get wrong number calls - I love it when I tell someone the person they want doesn't live in my flat and they ask 'are you sure?' as if I could look round again and find their friend has lived by me for years without me noticing

@Kandae11 yes had that one too - also had them read the number they want to me and it is nothing like my number - I could understand it if they misdialed by a single didget but its like they just pressed numbers at random and hoped for the best sometimes

What they do too - which I think is reasonable to ask - is this number 569 .....? and you say no it is not. Then they might continue with - but........

We never had many wrong number calls, I would say no more than 5 or 6 a year. It is a very long time that I do not dial a wrong number.

@Kandae11 I also usually said "sorry, I dialed the wrong number", but it happened that people hang up when I replied, I supposed they felt embarrassed.

I haven't dialed one in a long time too. Usually if I dial a wrong number I would say - sorry, I got the wrong number. However I remember one occasion when I simply hung up without saying anything - the person called my number and demanded to know if I called a minute ago. I know I should have said something.

our landline number is often miscalled as the clinic of one urologist specialist. sometimes too, the other end often tells me that 'she will order 2 big platters of noodles for a birthday celebration', to which i sometimes prank as saying a very lofty price for the noodles being ordered.

Nowadays if it is not a number on my contact list, I don't answer my phone, I switch it to silent. But the few times I did get wrong number calls in the past, I would just tell them they had the wrong number and end the call, luckily they didn't phone back. Sorry he got aggressive with you.

I have caller ID so I don't usually answer the phone if I'm not familiar with the number. However, recently I've been getting a call from CVS pharmacy telling me my prescription is ready for pick-up and it's not for me but for someone else. I don't know how many times they called before they stopped.

That's rather strange. I would expect them to be extra careful when it concerns a prescription.

@Kandae11 you would think so right...eventually they stopped calling and I guess it got fixed. Sometimes I think they might just enter the phone number wrong when they're filling out the information

I rang a wrong number the other day. It's always come as a shock as you know what number you wanted to ring and to find out you've dialled something else always surprises me.

This just happened to me yesterday. I try to call a fellow whose number was saved in my phone's phonebook, in two years its only now I'm calling him for important matter. Someone answered and told him "John how are you?" He told me that he's not John and said the sim card number might cut to previous owner and given to him. I immediately apologized to him.

When I was young we got wrong number calls all the time. Sometimes I would just go along with the conversation until they finally asked who I was or figured out I wasn't who they were looking for. Usually I was pretty bored if I did that and young! I very rarely ever get one now. I think because people add phone numbers into their contact lists on their phone it prevents people dialing the wrong number all the time.
