What if you could carry a sincerity meter app with you to dectect in converstaion? The general emotions we express using social media emotional icons or emoticons, as they are commonly called. But imagine if you will, having either an emotional detector app that reads emotion into what is being verbally spoken by those around you in an every day conversation. For example. You are discussing sports with a person who knows nothing about it but pretends to go along with you in conversation just to be talking and carrying on a normal conversation because maybe you are both friends or the other person merely doesn't want to admit I DON'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT SPORTS BUT STILL LIKE TALKING ABOUT IT. The good thing you would find about using such an emotional detector app would be, 1. You would know if the other person was being sincere with you. 2. You would know right off the bat if that other person was BS-ing you. 3. You would know if that person was faking it and/or lying to you by putting on a front or an act. 4. You would be able to determine if there was a hint of optimism or friendliness in their voice or if they were angry or on edge or even stressed. The thing is, most body language these days is being forgotten and facial expression as well as hand gesturing can be pretty well forgotten as we turn to the new forms of mobile and digital electronic social media. The sound of a person's voice, the emotion behind it, is lost in the translation when we spend most of the time just texting each other. When you get around to talking actually, to another person, either over the telephone, or having a one-on-one verbal conversation in the real world, either over coffee or covfefe, as it were, you might not know if that person is putting you on or being straightforward with you in a conversation. The bull-Sheet detector app or the emotion-D-tector app would be able to analyze the vocal patterns and the facial expressions of the person or persons in conversation that would enable you to interact better, knowing essentially, the psychological nature of another individual so as to quell an emotional reaction or prevent a potential argument. We only know that in public speaking, it is only after what is said has already been spoken, is there any feedback from those listening to the speaker, if they approve or disapprove of what has been said. Politicians, Lawyers, Teachers, and even Doctors and Police and Sales Reps all know a little bit about verbal feedback to know when to hold your tongue or bite your tongue after all is said and done.

When a person turns their back on you in conversation actions speak volumes louder than words do in that instance. It is hard to know when a person is tired of listening but on the telephone, I often am reminded of the following explanation: "I have an emergency. Someone's at the door. Can't talk now, I have pizza in the oven." or the most common excuse to get off the phone with a boring one sided conversation might be the old familiar, "I have someone on the other line and it's long distance."

@db20747 , Yes but you can only use that one once. After that you will have to come up with something else equally as clever and believable.

"...most body language these days is being forgotten..." --- I don't understand this. Only if you are a very good actor can you send wrong signals. Someone who can read body language and facial expressions can find you out. I can tell you that there are still honest people. Start talking about sports and I'll tell you that the topic bores me stiff. :-)

Where I live, in Dallas, Texas, talking about anything to anyone I do not know just to start a random conversation will often lead to an unwanted response. People are more than happy to talk for a few seconds but their attention span is so short if you linger too long on any topic the other person might take it that you are being too aggressive or too personal and in their face which is not a good thing at all. Best not to talk to anyone except the clerks who are tending to their jobs but only to ask them a question not to discuss sports or the weather in the retail environment. If you don't know the person standing in line in front of you best to remain silent. I learned by experience. People are not too social unless they are texting and that is a whole different can of worms.

I disagree with ML. Most people are capable of sending wrong signals---Just hang out at any singles bar and you'll see great examples, I'm told. I don't go to places like that and seduce girls. And it's not just singles bars, it happens everywhere---so an invention like that would be quite useful.

All I want is for life to go back to the old days. When there was no such thing as apps when you had a phone in your house on a table. I am so mad at technology that I could scream. I hate smartphones and so all my work on a desktop PC but my friends told me I should buy a cell phone. I found a flip phone and bought a SIM card. Now I have to configure some kind of idiot APN I have no idea how to do it the SIM card is not working and I am just ready to scream. When do I need this aggravation why cannot we still have regular phones is our houses?????

I have a regular phone in our house only it is connected to our fiber optic WiFi adapter that connects to the outer line via optical fiber cables and converts in the house to a jack that connects to the phone via a copper line. And I too have a trac fone that I pay for once every 3 months. I never give that number out to any body. As to setting the APN? I will check. Give me a sec. 1. Sparrows, of course. The most common species of birds.
Why do we love what is rare and despise what is all around us?

I totally agree that facial gestures, hand gestures and body languages are loosing their significance. The real face to face conversation is getting extinct. It is more of texting. I still would like to believe that there are genuine people online who do not fake their feelings.
