Today many foods are produced with hidden sugars that we may not be aware of. Besides the obvious ones like cereals, yogurt, and condiments there also hidden sugars in spaghetti sauce, deli meat, dried fruit, granola bars, bread and peanut butter. It's always a good idea to check labels for hidden sugar. These sugars have many names we may or may not be familiar with. Some of the names are: corn syrup, lactose, aspartame, dextrose, maltose, sucrose, glucose and agave.

I always read the labels, that is why I make my own granola and sometimes even my bread. Sugar is a poison and we should avoid It as much as we can.

That's why I buy as few processed foods as possible. It is simple to make your own pasta sauce, salad dressings, bread, and even yogurt.

I agree with you. I personally think that the American food is very sweet. Human beings like sweet things and probably it can sell better if it is sweet enough.

I do not add any extra sugar to anything and usually like products that are not sweet. You are right about checking labels.

I know it's not a good idea, but we southerners often add a little sugar to recipes that probably don't even need it at all.

That's one reason I don't eat processed foods anymore. I don't need that added sugar in my diet.

There are even vegetable oils that are in things that seem odd. I believe you covered that once before? I feel like someone here told me about a creamer that had vegetable oil in it. I accidentally got the creamer without reading that it had veggie oil in it. Honestly, we would all be better of if we did like was once done. Made our own condiments, our own peanut butter, our own everything.

Don't forget honey and molasses and organic brown rice syrup. Sneaky, sneaky! And even maple syrup and I'm not totally sold on coconut sugar.

Just what I need is to have sugary foods are in my food. I have to shed pounds to avoid getting diabetes.

They aren't hidden. It's commonly taught that all those things are sugar or sugar related. All someone has to do is read labels.

Very true about sugar in food products. I've also noticed salt as another added ingredient. No wonder I have HBP
