For Your Information I`m Not Rich

I often hear being a landlady, owner of rentals, that I am rich and I should sit back and collect the money and not work at all. I have to shake my head each time I hear this because people do not understand the costs. Where does the money come from to buy this property? Where does the money come from to pay property taxes? Where does the money come from to repair or redo the property when someone moves? Where does the money come from to pay the yearly income taxes? Who pays for things when the property is empty? Where does the money come from to pay a roofer? A painter? A plumber? An electrician? The carpenter? No, I`m not rich.

@andriaperry I studied some costing of your world...and I said to me..whoaa...America is simply not designed for have enough and enjoy the rest of life. 800+ is medical insurance, 4 properties of approx 100000 each means 400 towards insurance and 400 towards property tax per month. In one house you have live? So rent from 3 homes say 800 from each home = 2400. Provision of 400 for repairs pm and 300 for vacant premises. How much net remains in hand? 100 dollars! What are they talking about being rich in your world? You gotta live within 100 dollars per month! Unless you can get more than 800 per month from the rental properties. That 100 may also not be there, because money gets spent on transport. Only benefit is, rent and medical coverage.

It's a living..but unless you own commercial real estate or make a fortune flipping houses..I don't see landlords as rich.

Those kind of comments obviously come from people who have never been a landlady. Pay them no mind.

Owning one home is enough for me to handle so being a landlady with all that responsibility is not an easy job. Guess whomever thinks you're rich is totally misinformed. If you were rich I'd expect you to be myLotting from an island somewhere while on vacation.

@andriaperry Also being born Jewish does not make me rich like some people think we all are. I am comfortable and would like to be more than that with finding what I want to do here till I stop working if I can. Some people are good with money and some are not. I was not very good when I was growing up. Now, I try and watch what I spend money on here in Israel.

@andriaperry It is just as easy for tenants to flush junk they should not down the toilets and bring home bug infestations, and ride bicycles on the roof in new units as old.

People make so many assumptions. I know landlords who do have money to burn and then some, but not all landlords fall into that category - depends on their situation. My boss had a one rental property, a very small duplex - it was some extra money he could get at the time, but I know there were a lot of headaches for him that went with it.

@andriaperry Rent is sky high here - always been - but still climbing. Right now - apartments - 2 bedroom in an ok area, nothing special, about $2200+ a month. I don't even know what renting a house would be. My friend's husband had several apartment complexes around the better places in L.A. (Southern CA) - so yah, they were filthy stinkin' rich. I can't even imagine any rent being less than $1000 around here !

So far I've only known one couple who were landlord/ladies, after 10 years they put the property up for sale because they were spending more on maintenance than they received as rent plus the renters did a lot of damage to their property especially their front yard where the last renters parked an oil leaking car and harley. Oil in a yard is very hard to get rid of. No, I don't envy you nor do I ever want to be a landlady

At one time, when I rented to the extreme poor, it was. Actually @TheHorse made a statement when I was ranting about a tenant, he said "what kind of people are you renting to?" So I thought about it and they were all poor white trash. I had cheap rent. I looked up MY rights and started there. Then I stated rules and the price of rent in the windows if each house up for rent, now all I get are good hard working people.

People would think like that for businessmen. They think in general, no thinking that a businessman needs a lot of money to pay the things and people that help him in doing his business. They only see the big material things the businessman owns, like his car, his house etc. But some or most of them comes fromn loans.

@andriaperry well it’s a lot cheaper here. But your situation is like in Australia. And repairs are costly for you cause you actually pay people hourly as in Philippines we pay them per job and it’s really cheap..

BUT But You are. You are doing what you enjoy and living life the way you want. So you are rich!!!! But on a side note----You need to get enough money to afford me and my critters by winter. If it is a cold one again we have discussed it and are all heading your way when we can get out. That would be 4 dogs, 3 or 4 cats, 2 horses, and right now 1 goat. Thats if hubby dont come with me.
