Hello all,
I am back and made it through the fast. It was very nice being in the Synagogue yesterday. The only complaint I have is that it was freezing in there. We have services for Rosh Hashana(Our Jewish New Year) and Yom Kippur (our day of Atonement) in a Hotel. Some of the women that stay there for those holidays went back to their rooms and got something warm for them. I was sick on Rosh Hashana so did not go. It is a ways to walk and felt praying at home was good for me. I could not go home and get something warm so could not stay longer. I stayed till where I wanted to. I leave after we do praying for our lost ones, including our millions of Jews that perished in the Hololocaust and our soldiers that died in our wars.Just wanted to share this with you and also tell you the fast was easy this year. Nice to be back with you all.I would like to add one more thing here. Only on our Day of Atonement is it quiet on our streets and kids ride bikes or other things but very very few cards. It is so nice that we can walk in the streets and no one honking at us.

I think my favorite prayer is the Ashamnu. The music is beautiful, and the words are something everyone can relate to: a list of wrongs, at least one of which everyone is guilty of.
Ashamnu arranged by Cantor Don Gurney and sung by Cantor Joseph Gole together with the Sinai Temple Choir, organist and choral director, Aryell Cohen and Sin...

That is nice that you like that one. We had a great Cantor where I went yesterday and loved singing along to things.

I was stressing about the fast and then it was very easy and I was not thirsty at all. I fasted the week before and that was a minor fast where you eat early in the morning and then fast and I was so thirsty but Yom Kippur I fasted easily I got up later and drank something even though I was not thirsty. My succa is all set and have something different to can sleep in it this year. I am very excited. I am going to the Kotel and the zoo for the intermediate days and am very excited.

Thanks Valerie. I love that day and it is so peaceful and quiet. I believe it is like that only here in Israel. I remember when I was growing up in Minneapolis that there was traffic but here it is so cool like that. I could not take it any longer sitting or standing in the cold that I had to leave. Outside it was so nice and sunny.

happy Jewish new Year to you and to the other Jewish users in this site. may i ask if the Day of atonement should be celebrated in solemnity, or are the kids allowed to make some noise or sing songs of rejoice?

It is a day where we fast and reflect on the past year. Our holdiay that starts tonight is a holiday of joy and we eat and sit in booths called succas for 7 days and we have intermediate days where we can go out and enjoy ourselves. The end of the holiday we dance in the Synagogue.

I'm glad your special day went well. It is awful being cold for too long.
