We have at least one 5° Richter every day in my country. Mother Nature.

Every day I read the news online and every day I read about yet another "middle magnitude" quake in some part of Chile. Today we had 2. Maybe because today we had our National Holidays. For us "middle magnitude" means more than 5 and less than 6. Usually nobody worries much and there are no damages. That has to do with the way our houses are being built for a long time. In 2010 we had an earthquake bigger than one in Haiti a little before ours. The damages in Haiti are still to be seen. Is your country prepared for the problems that Mother Nature creates.

Probably not as prepared as we should be but then who is?

@marguicha Me either. I think actually our house had to comply with certain earthquake resistant laws.

Whatever we are, we cannot do anything if the incident hits us even 2 times the 7SR earthquake occurred in Lombok last month and killed hundreds of people this year.

I think I can say we are blessed. We rarely have earthquakes here and if does just a small one with no damage at all.

I'd like to say yes but considering power just got restored to all places in Puerto Rico and there are places in the United States that doesn't have clean drinking water... I'm gonna say no, the United States isn't prepared.
