Day 29 Luke 8:26 Luke 8:26 And they arrived at the country of the Gadarenes, which is over against Galilee. 27 And when he went forth to land, there met him out of the city a certain man, which had devils long time, and wore no clothes, neither abode in any house, but in the tombs. 28 When he saw Jesus, he cried out, and fell down before him, and with a loud voice said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of God most high? I beseech thee, torment me not. 29 (For he had commanded the unclean spirit to come out of the man. For oftentimes it had caught him: and he was kept bound with chains and in fetters; and he brake the bands, and was driven of the devil into the wilderness.) 30 And Jesus asked him, saying, What is thy name? And he said, Legion: because many devils were entered into him. 31 And they besought him that he would not command them to go out into the deep. 32 And there was there a herd of many swine feeding on the mountain: and they besought him that he would suffer them to enter into them. And he suffered them. 33 Then went the devils out of the man, and entered into the swine: and the herd ran violently down a steep place into the lake, and were choked. 34 When they that fed them saw what was done, they fled, and went and told it in the city and in the country. 35 Then they went out to see what was done; and came to Jesus, and found the man, out of whom the devils were departed, sitting at the feet of Jesus, clothed, and in his right mind: and they were afraid. 36 They also which saw it told them by what means he that was possessed of the devils was healed. 37 Then the whole multitude of the country of the Gadarenes round about besought him to depart from them; for they were taken with great fear: and he went up into the ship, and returned back again. 38 Now the man out of whom the devils were departed besought him that he might be with him: but Jesus sent him away, saying, 39 Return to thine own house, and show how great things God hath done unto thee. And he went his way, and published throughout the whole city how great things Jesus had done unto him. Proof. Everywhere you turn today, people demand proof for everything you do. What do you do when you give them the proof, they see it for themselves, and still won’t believe the proof? Jesus and his disciples arrived at the country of the Gadarenes, across the lake from Galilee. The first person to meet Jesus was a man possessed of demons, not one, but a legion of them. A legion comprised a thousand soldiers. Notice what the demons said to Jesus. They acknowledged him for who he was, the Son of the Most-High God. How would they know who Jesus was? They knew him because they had been in heaven with Jesus, and was present when Lucifer was cast out of heaven along with them. They were fallen angels. Lucifer, or Satan is the chief of the demons cast from heaven, and our number one enemy. Satan sends his demons, fallen angels, to people to tempt them, and eventually, they become possessed by more than one demon so they aren’t in control of their actions. What do you know about this demon-possessed man? 1. You know this man wasn’t in his right mind because he was chained in the cemetery, kept away from people. 2. You know they talked to Jesus, which means you can converse with demons, and might not know you’re doing so. 3. They knew who Jesus was. 4. They knew their ultimate fate. 5. They asked Jesus for mercy. Jesus was there when Lucifer was cast out of heaven. Luke 10:18 And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven. (KJV) Paul had trouble with a demon-possessed woman. He and Silas were cast into prison when Paul cast the demon from her. Acts 16:16 And it came to pass, as we went to prayer, a certain damsel possessed with a spirit of divination met us, which brought her masters much gain by soothsaying: 17 The same followed Paul and us, and cried, saying, These men are the servants of the most high God, which show unto us the way of salvation. 18 And this did she many days. But Paul, being grieved, turned and said to the spirit, I command thee in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her. And he came out the same hour. 19 And when her masters saw that the hope of their gains was gone, they caught Paul and Silas, and drew them into the marketplace unto the rulers, 20 And brought them to the magistrates, saying, These men, being Jews, do exceedingly trouble our city, 21 And teach customs, which are not lawful for us to receive, neither to observe, being Romans. 22 And the multitude rose up together against them: and the magistrates rent off their clothes, and commanded to beat them. 23 And when they had laid many stripes upon them, they cast them into prison, charging the jailor to keep them safely: 24 Who, having received such a charge, thrust them into the inner prison, and made their feet fast in the stocks. Evil spirits know who you are. Acts 19:13 Then certain of the vagabond Jews, exorcists, took upon them to call over them which had evil spirits the name of the Lord Jesus, saying, We adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preaches. 14 And there were seven sons of one Sceva, a Jew, and chief of the priests, which did so. 15 And the evil spirit answered and said, Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are ye? 16 And the man in whom the evil spirit was leaped on them, and overcame them, and prevailed against them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded. (KJV) As Christians, you have power over demons as much as you have over sickness and disease. However, Jesus said there was one thing you needed to know more than how to deliver people from demons. Luke 10:19 Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you. 20 Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven. (KJV) James showed how much demons fear the name of Jesus. James 2:19 Thou believe that there is one God; thou do well: the devils also believe, and tremble. Demons know what their fate is. 2 Peter 2:4 For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment; (KJV) Jude 1:6 And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day. (KJV) What more proof do you need that Jesus is the Son of God? Yet, people demand more proof that Jesus is who he claims to be. Let’s pray: Father, thank you for providing proof that Jesus is your Son. Give me a ministry that has demons running because of my faith in you. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen. Yes, people want more proof that Jesus is the Son of God. Yet, they trust so many other things blindly.
