A pony in a parade

I wrote about a furry moth the other day but here is a furry pony. This little Shetland was in the parade at Ravensthorpe. Isn’t he just so cute? Shetlands originated in the Shetland Isles of Scotland and in winter grow a very thick and shaggy coat. If you look carefully at the pony’s neck and belly, you can see that the owner has clipped away some of his coat.
Horses grow a winter coat which is thicker than their summer coat. Some horses and ponies grow much thicker coats than others. Arabs and Thoroughbreds tend to have much finer coats than some native breeds. It’s all about survival in their native habitats.

Keeping those manes and tails pretty can be a full time job. Most have very long thick ones.

@wolfgirl569 I wonder sometimes how they can see where they are going with such thick and long forelocks.

Shetland ponies are so cute and that one is certainly all dressed up for the parade. I can see where the owner has clipped his coat.

Knowing anything about ponies is new to me and so will not know the difference between any type of them.

For such a small town, they did themselves proud.
