We’re off shortly but one last, short post before I go:
Friends of ours narrowly missed hitting a kangaroo just the other day. They caught the action on their dash-cam. The roo was clipped by a car just ahead of them, came flying through the air and just missed their car. They saw it hopping off in the rear view mirror so it doesn't seem as though it was badly hurt
Kangaroos on the roads are a common sight here, much like deer seem to be in America. They are regularly hit and injured or killed. They can also make a mess of a car.
Here is the link:
The photo is of some of the kangaroos that regularly visit our property.

I don't think we have anything like that here. The roos seem to be getting more and more prevalent.

@JudyEv Yes, I understand but it is not an offense in case you hit a kangaroo?

There isn't much the government can do. The kangaroos just go where they like. They don't have any road sense.

@Mavic123456 No, it's not an offence. It happens too often for starters.

it is scary when you see something suddenly flying/coming at you out of nowhere.

We have such issues with monkeys in my area. It is scary when something just jumps before your car.

@arunima25 I have seen video clips of Indian traffic. I wouldn't like to drive there.

Sometimes it is hard to avoid hitting an animal even when you are driving slowly. We were creeping along in our car one evening and a kangaroo jumped and hit the car. It bounced down the side and damaged every panel. Sometimes they are impossible to avoid.

@JudyEv Must have been quite shocking for them. I should imagine if you hit one of those they could cause some major damage to your car!

@garymarsh6 It's not hard to have a car totalled by hitting a roo.

Just in the past month two of my co-workers hit deer while driving into work. Sounds like you have the same problem with kangaroos that we have with deer here in the US. They definitely can do some serious damage to your vehicle when you hit them! And I'm surprised at how often the animals survive collisions with cars and live to see another day.

@JudyEv It's the same here. There seems to be more and more deer now. I read an article recently that the ticks that carry Lyme diseases are expanding their territory where they are found, mostly due to the increase in the population of deer that carry the ticks.

@moffittjc That's not good. I think the jury is still out on whether we have Lyme disease in Australia or not.

I read an article, in which a driver was driving slowly in the dark, when a kangaroo jumped out from nowhere, hitting the front part of his new car. The airbags promptly inflated and he (a very big and solid build man) was wedged tightly. He said he had to stay there until someone came to rescue him. The car ended up a write-off. Those kangaroos seem to follow no road rules.

They have absolutely no road sense at all. Once we were travelling very slowly because we knew there were a lot of roos in the area when one leapt out of nowhere, hit the rearview mirror, then both side panels, the rear panel then went over the boot (trunk) area and damaged that too! It was pretty unbelievable.

You were probably lucky he didn't slide up the bonnet. It's good he wasn't hurt. I'm sure this roo would have had some bruises.

The normal scenario here is the cat being hit by a vehicle.

That's rough.
In our area, this month and next month are the "season" for hitting deer on the roadways.
There are more out and about so caution is necessary.
I know of someone that hit a 3 within just as many weeks.
He told me that the last one he hit was so scary, it hit his windshield, and laid there on his car hood, and his eyes were staring at his and just a couple of feet away from him.
That actually totalled his car and he had to replace it.

Yes we have deer here and often they run off after getting hit too. Glad your friends missed it. They look big enough to cause a lot of damage.

I don't think adorable is quite the right word. Nearly hitting a kangaroo isn't really adorable.
