Clutter Project Day 4

Mostly Uncluttered Bedroom

I'm discovering that decluttering and writing about it divided into days may not work as I intended. Since we can only share on photo per post, I can only show the before or the after photo, but not both. Here I'm sharing an after photo. This is my bedroom. When we first moved in it was extremely cluttered since I was also storing lots of book boxes in here. Those were mostly moved into the living room when suddenly we had to start sleeping here after my surgeries in 2014. It still may look cluttered to you, but it's much better than it was last week. See the tall bookcase at the back? That used to have no empty space at all and I had electronic and other non-book type stuff on the shelf in the middle where you now see a few books stacked. Those stacked books are on their way out. I just have to list them and get them into the box. Also, there was stuff on the floor in front of the bookcase blocking some of the lower doors. I sorted some small boxes and threw out a bunch of stuff. One good-size box was full of product packages I was keeping to refer to when I reviewed the products. I decided to cut out only the parts of the packages I needed, and when I finished that I was able to fit everything upright in a small rice-roller box so I could easily flip through it to find what I needed. I put that box in the computer room where I would actually be writing the reviews. You can see another rice roller box in the lower right corner by the TV. I used it to hold the CD's I wanted handy in my room. Some had been on a night stand by my bed and some had been on that bookcase shelf. Now they are out of the way and easy to flip through. Before they were stack on top of each other. I find that on most days I'm dealing with more than one area. As I start to organize and put things in one area away, I find I have to move from room to room to find places for what I want to keep. For example, my closet was really using space inefficiently. I decided to go through the purse storage bag my mother had left there. I was able to decide to donate a least half the purses and use the extra space for things taking up room on the closet floor. Some things were so worn out that I just threw them away. Today I took everything I've sorted to donate so far to the thrift shop. That was a large bag of clothes, three large boxes of books, and two boxes of purses. Some days I get more done than others, but I'm keeping to the goal to get rid of at least something every day or to find a place for sorted things I need to keep (such as sorting and filing important papers). Have you met your goals for what you wanted to do today?

You can show us more than one photo. You can make a collage of several photos. I don't know the trick but you can ask members who do, for example @LadyDuck.

@MALUSE I use a graphic program because I know what to do and I like it more, but for those with no experience this site is pretty good.

I hadn't thought of doing a collage. That's a great idea.

You can make a collage of different photos, using a graphic program if you know "how to", or going to the site photocollage.com and loading the photos you want to use to make a collage. Decluttering is a hard work and it takes a lot more time that we initially plan.

I should make a collage. I just hadn't thought of it. I think my brain circuits are overloaded.

You can use the edit function to put 2 pictures side by side for you post. I am sure someone here would be able to explain how better that I can. But you are doing good with the decluttering. I need to get to work on mine again.

It must feel good to get it all sorted and organized. This is something I need to do with my bedroom closet (it's overloaded and I've been saying I'm going to do it and don't).

It's been really nice to have that little nest in that room now where I can read when my Hubby wants to watch TV in the family room. I'm getting more done now, but I need a new lamp. The one I brought in from the garage has a flicker that won't go away and it gives me a headache.

@bagarad probably isn't safe to use a lamp that has a flicker and best to buy a new one. It's nice when you have your own sanctuary to escape to.

People who move often seem to accumulate less.

Wow, that brings back memories! When my marriage broke up my husband rented a storage container, one of the really big ones and I thought we would never fill it. But we did! It was emptied and we filled it up halfway again before we vacated our former home. Then I moved out of state and threw away more things and still had to hire a moving van--mainly because one of my adult children moved with me (but he moved back within a month). Five years later when I moved back to where my sons were (my first grandchild would be born later that year!) I returned with only what I could fit in my Toyota Corolla. That included my two dogs. I've moved 3 times since then and am now in a 680 sq ft one bedroom apartment. What possessions I do have are precious to me. I can still pack everything I own other than furniture into my Toyota Corolla. It's liberating and I feel free. Do you feel liberated as you shed things? I'm back here after quite awhile so I don't know why you're sorting things and donating. In my case I'm 64 and I don't want my sons to have a lot to sort through. How about you?

It's very liberating to get rid of things. I'm 75 and I don't want my younger relatives to have to clean up anymore than they have to. I have two houses to clean up and a couple of sheds.

I don't have room for much more than books in mine.
