i am a trifle

Irked. Indeed I am. Despite my MiL popping her clogs, I still manage to have my niece on a Friday. She's three going on fourteen, a beautiful creature who makes me laugh with both her sense of humour, her cute little oddities and her intellectual capabilities. One of her little oddities involves being fixated on a YouTube channel which is purely a woman playing with toys. You hear her voice and see her hands, but never her face. And all she does is play, talking about what she's doing and who's saying what and blah-de-blah. There's no rhyme or reason to it, no script, no children ... just a woman playing with toys and seemingly making up stories as she goes along. As an aside, my SiL and I have discussed how I could do the same with my dolls. I'm sorely tempted. Anywhichway, the bonkers woman is American. American English is very different to British English. Thus my niece irked me today by calling her toy pram a stroller and the toy nappy bag a diaper bag. 'Merica. Taking over the world one toddler at a time. *smile*

I still use toys and models in creating story scenarios

Yes, and I have noticed that you do like to use American English sometimes, despite being British. Hmmm, maybe YOU are the bonkers American woman?? ;)

@arthurchappell I watch a lot of American shows and films, but I refuse to succumb to their sneaky English Language Takeover ways!

*cough* Lorry Vs Lori or Laurie. I'm laughing because I don't even remember the circumstances. It's just a fleeting thought in my mind, but I'm certain that when I was a child, I had somehow become bewildered at seeing my aunt Lori and not understanding why there was a truck named after her.

Ack, truck is another word that is creeping in. I would pronounce Laurie differently to lorry. But Lori, yep.

@Poppylicious I am pretty sure this aunt spelled her name Lori, I always pronounced it like the word Lore + e. Which is pretty much how I would say "lorry".

Irksome, yes... Some British youtubers have such annoying habits: Stampy's laugh pervades my space when younger son is watching him on his Kindle Fire tablet... And he doesn't half rabbit on and on.
Stampy Cat from Minecraft is Joseph Garrett and he gets 30 million Youtube video hits per week, while also making a living out of it. Note: I am *NOT* moneti...

@Poppylicious Oh, music is top of my YouTube pops too. Although I do watch some of the comedy stuff - Two Ronnies, Dave Allen, the Pythons, Oggy and the Cockroaches (animated) on occasion.

I don't watch any YouTube channels. I use it purely for music. Some of the students at College are desperate to break into YouTube. They get very excited when they hit fifty subscribers, even if forty-nine of them are their gran and her mates.
