Today's Computer Keyboards Are Junk

I recently bought a new PC for my wife. It came with a little plastic keyboard that felt like a toy. I immediately replaced it with one that's more substantial. I learned to type on real typewriters (really dates me, doesn't it). Now, those were keyboards! In my opinion the plastic junk they give you today doesn't deserve the name. It's a shame that some of the items made nowadays are so shoddy. Some last no time at all.

@RonElFran I suppose so but it's hard sometimes to find who is really responsible. I guess for a start we should take it back to where we bought it from.

I think they only get away with it because we consumers let them.

Then you probably remember those old IBM 129 Keypunch machines, that's what I learned to 'type' on. Almost everything these days is made of cheap plastic and even the new monitors aren't worth a dime anymore

I took a business course to become a Keypunch Operator back in 1969 and it supported me until the desktop computers invaded the computer relm then I had to find a different way to earn a living @RonElFran

Oh yes, I remember those keypunch machines! As an engineering major, they were a big part of my first years in college.

It is planned that they would fail so you would have to buy another.

I think they just want to spend as little as possible and we'll just accept it.

It's not just that it might break - it doesn't feel right for typing.

@Mavic123456 Actually, I'm pretty good. I took a typing class in 8th or 9th grade, and it's been one of he most useful skills I got in school.

I learned to type on my mother's Royal Portable typewriter many years before the first PC was invented. The last time I purchased a desktop/tower computer one of the first things I did was replace the keyboard and mouse it had with a wireless keyboard and mouse that was much more substantial.

To me, laptop keyboards have their own problems - make way more mistakes when typing on them.

The keyboard now uses plastic that is easily broken, so that if we are too tight pressing it will be easily damaged.

You're right, those plastic keyboards feel like if you type a letter too hard, the whole thing will break.

I'm sure some people just put up with the tacky keyboard that came with their computer so they won't have to go to the trouble and expense of buying a good one.

Branded keyboards like those they use for gaming have very good quality but you just have to spend a bit more. Those unbranded cheap ones are throw aways, disposable. I wont use one either cause keyboard performance affects our work output and pleasure experience.

It seems everything we buy these days is made to last about a month. It would be nice to have a keyboard not made of plastic and something we thought could last for years @RonElFran

I too started off with a typewriter and it helped me to be able to write quickly on a keyboard. I love keyboards that are large enough for me to write comfortably on.
