When I was holidaying in the US I got to taste pancakes dipped in maple syrup. My nephew had picked up a bottle of this syrup from the Colorado Mountains. I assumed you got the best stuff there. Even at hotels where we stayed this was one of the items on the breakfast buffet table What we get here is an imitation. Lots of stuff that is supposed to be made in the US is available here but on comparison they are a poor imitation. My friend is expected to visit India later in December and I will ask her to get me a bottle of this syrup

I prefer the pure maple syrup that comes from Canada. I am glad that we find it here for sale.

You will definitely get the pure stuff. Pancakes and maple syrup taste great. I really do not know which maple syrup is the best. I do know Canada has maple trees that grow in abundance.

@allknowing The important is that it's "pure" maple syrup. The Canadian one is very good, I like the golden maple syrup (grade A) the dark one is too strong. The maple leaf is part of the Canada flag, I think they are the largest producers in the world.

There is a lot of friendly debate about where to find the best maple syrup. I am partial to New Hampshire and Vermont maple syrup. My wife's cousin has sugar maples on his farm and makes maple syrup every year. We visited him when we still lived up north and nothing beats the taste of pure fresh light amber maple syrup warm from the cooker.

Excuse my ignorance but to obtain maple syrup do they tap the tree like they do on rubber plantations and the syrup is collected in a little collection pot before being bottled?

@DWDavis I have just watched it on Youtube. It is amazing to see it being collected and boiled up to make the syrup. We do not have make it here in the UK.

Very tasty with crispy bacon too, the crisper the better - provided you can eat meat from the pig of course.

Our favorite maple syrup comes from Vermont. To me, it's the best. Pure maple syrup! I can't eat pancakes without it.

@allknowing Our son brought us a bottle from Montreal. It was good, but not as good as the maple syrup from Vermont.

Every time we went to the US with my husband, I insisted that we went at least once to a place called Pancake house. It was not expensive and you ate the best breakfasts ever (except for the coffee that was awful). Those piled pancakes and the several syrups (I always chose maple) made me feel rich

Oh yes, if you can get your hands on the real deal, that the way to go! I grew up on the imitation stuff (I didn't know the difference as a kid). But after having the real stuff, there was no going back - we always have real maple syrup in our house - even if it's a lot more expensive.

Sad that even food is imitated. India is noted for such illegal activity.

@allknowing And sadly many people are ok with the imitation - it's cheap - but so are the ingredients (not good for you).

I have experienced this imitation with chocolates. They call them Belgium but they are not. So no hope of getting anything genuine here. And if at all there is there will be heavy import duty on it.
