And Now, Eczema On My Eyelids!

I seem to have rotten luck. Earlier this year I fell down the stairs and broke my ankle while taking out the garbage. While I was holed up in bed healing from that, I developed eczema on my eyelids. I suffered with it for a couple months until I was finally able to get in to see a dermatologist, who prescribed me prednisone and told me to use CeraVe ointment on my eyelids and to stop rubbing them when they itch. The prednisone knocked the eczema right out of my system, and I was hoping it was a one-and-done deal. No such luck. A few weeks ago it came back. It was mild at first but now it's gotten so bad that my eyelids are swollen from it. When I woke up yesterday morning, I could barely open my eyes. I told my boyfriend "I think I need to go to the ER." Fortunately the doctor on duty was able to prescribe me prednisone to try to kick it out of my system again. I took the first dose last night and the swelling went down a teensy, tiny bit, but it is still bad. As if that's not bad enough, the weight of my eyelids pressing down on my eyes is making my vision blurry, too. And I can't get in to see my dermatologist for two more weeks. It would just figure that after 34 years, I would suddenly develop eczema...and on my eyelids, of all places! Who even knew you could get it there? I certainly never thought of it! And now I get to live with the fact that this is how my life is going to be from now on. Hopefully I'll be able to figure out what's triggering it and remove it from my environment so the flairs will come fewer and farther between. Do you have eczema? Have you ever broke out on your eyelids?

One thing is sure, you must not rub your eyelid. I hope the prednisone will work fast to get rid of this eczema. I had a small spot of eczema on one leg, it's there since I was a kid, almost invisible.

@Srbageldog I know it's difficult, I had conjunctivitis and it was very hard not to rub my eyes. I am glad the swelling is down.

It is very difficult to not rub my eyelids when they itch so bad. I am trying not too. The swelling has gone down a bit more today. Hopefully it will be gone by the end of the week.

Yes that is indeed a very rare case of eczema infection you have had. Most that i see is on foot and on hands. But in eye Is the first time to encounter such a case. I am just glad that you have recovered from it and it did not get worse. I know that eczema are hard to cure.

I get it on my hands also, but that is from soap allergies.

Nope, haven't been wearing any makeup. When I first broke out I was laid up in bed with a broken ankle and hadn't worn any makeup in a while, and I have been avoiding it since out of paranoia that it would retrigger a breakout. :(

Not in my eyelids, but I developed eczema in my intimate parts. And that was terrible! I didn´t even know what was the right doctor to see that. I finally went to a dermatologist and this is now half way controlled. I had to change my soap, my toilet paper, and use mainly water and nothing else. I hope you don´t use make up in your eyes. It would be a no-no.

Oh, that must have been miserable! I'm sorry you've had to deal with that. I am glad that you have it somewhat controlled. I usually wear eyeliner but I haven't been able to lately. That's the only makeup I ever wear.

@Srbageldog It is almost over. The worst though was all of the things that I thought were wrong.

I have dermatitis which is similar to eczema, I use ketoconazole cream to get rid of it. If I missed 3 days without cream, I will have dandruff on my face.
