The sorrow of saying goodbye

I'm having one of those mornings where my mojo just ain't working. I could be practicing guitar or piano. But I'm not. I could be grading in-class assignments. But I'm not. I could even be vacuuming. But I'm not. I think I have a case of the Fall blues. My dad loved Fall, but Fall always reminds me that everything that lives must die. I remember a line from an old folk song: beauty would not beauty be/if it did not fade. Even the title of this post is the name of a song by Cyrus Clark, of the Cache Valley Drifters. I'm writing this post to kick start my day. I searched through my photos and found one of me with the dead parts of my corn plants, ready for the dumpster. I hope I haven't used it here before. Do you ever get the Fall blues? Do you have a favorite season? I'm going to link a Greg Brown song that suits my mood. But not until I've posted this with a picture.

A pumpkin spice latte could cure the world of all its ailments. Or at least make you feel a little better for a few minutes.

I dont mind fall, but I hate that I know the winter is coming soon. I hate the thought of cold weather being so close.

It's actually a lovely day out. I just have to extricate myself from my funk. I ate some chocolate and vacuumed. And squeezed out (horrible analogy intended) this post.

There's a lot of things I could be doiing too, but I'm not. I don't like the fall, when things start dying off. I much prefer spring, with its promise of new life.

@TheHorse Since the sun is shining today I went for a walk (and picked up my meds) and when I got back home again I picked some beans and decided to dig up the rest of the potatoes. I think that's enough productivity for today, don't you?

That's the way I feel too. But I feel less "blah" today because there are a bunch of things I HAVE to do. The blues make decision-making hard. Today, the only decision is about in what order to do things.

I'm sorry you have the Fall blues. Fall puts a smile on my face. Summer is over, cooler temps are here, and winter is coming.

It's still pretty warm here. I may hit the pool with papers. I did finally get some mojo working.

@TheHorse I saw the 49rs were losing. It looks like it wasn't a good football day. Chocolate is a good mood fixer.

Fall is actually when I sigh in relief a little bit, because it means the end of 100°F days and that the rains will come back soon. However, I do have my melancholy days when it gets darker (especially in November when we have that abrupt end of daylight savings time). January is probably my most difficult month.

I don't like super hot days as much as I used to.

@spiderdust I wish I had more of a chance to visit my native Midwest and see how the hot Summer days feel there. I remember humidity, but it never seemed to bother me. It might now, though I've enjoyed my recent Summer visits to (also humid) New York.

Fall is a hard season for me. I love it but the changes always remind of my lost loved ones. So I try everything I can to snap out of it and enjoy the birds and cats and whatever else I can find! Music is good.

I prefer music that matches my mood to music that's too "happy."

@CarolDM Me too. Daniel Levitin, the neurologist who wrote "This is Your Brain on Music," told me (at a presentation he gave here) that listening to sad music when you're sad is more soothing that listening to happy music, because it "validates" your emotions and makes you feel you're not alone.

I'm more likely to suffer from midwinter blues....fall days are bright and crisp....just the thing to motivate me to do things.

Excellent point, My Dear Friend. Heh. I have a bunch of errands to do today before my 2:30 PM dentist appointment, and the cool air and bright sunshine ARE motivating me to get busy.

I guess I like spring and autumn best as they don't have the extremes of hot and cold that summer and winter do.

Yes, I enjoy the Summer side of both Spring and Fall. But this morning, Fall had me down for some reason.

I get the blues sometimes, it might be in any season. Especially if I hear a lonely sad song. Hope your mojo is in good working order by now.

It's improved. I just posted a slightly more "up-beat" post. I got some grading done, and that made me feel productive.

@TheHorse Wonderful. My blues usually goes away quickly. I start a poem or write in my journal and get it out of my system.

Hey don't get upset. If old will never go then how can we welcome the new horns?
