We are not yet close to Halloween but before you know it it will be here. However, I am not referring to the holiday now. I am referring to a well-known novelty song “Ding Dong the Witch is Dead” which was used in the ever-popular movie “The Wizard of Oz”. The reason this song came to mind today was that there was great commotion out on the street and children were crying they were tired and adults saying it is just a little bit up the road. Finally, one adult could not take it anymore and lay down on a patch of grass. There is an open field across from the house. I was then reminded of “Ding Dong the Witch is Dead” because while growing up anytime any grownup seemed to be out of it or if a teacher didn’t show up at school some of us would be chanting this phrase. Not that anyone had actually died but they were out of the game at least for that day. How many of you remember this song? How many of you as children would also use this phrase to refer to grownups that you did not like so much? Are there any so-called witches in your lives now that you would like to melt?
