Four Seasons

My favorite season of the year is Winter, followed by Autumn, Spring, and dead last Summer. However, having lived in a climate most of my life, and enjoying all four seasons in their best and worst times, I couldn't think of a better place to live than right where I am. I spent several years in California. The weather is nothing to write home about. The song, It Never Rains in California, but man it pours is true. The day my daughter was born it rained so hard 8 roofs in the apartment complex I lived in caved in and the management had to relocate those families. Mostly though, it's hot with the coolest temps found maybe this time of year. Still, I'll take a Christmas with snow, over my first Christmas in San Diego with rain. That's not the way to celebrate Christmas. I also spent a year plus on Guam, located in the Tropic of Cancer. Guam has a lot to offer for such a small island. What it doesn't offer is snow or the four seasons. Being in the tropics the weather is HOT. Not my favorite kind of weather. Christmas morning I had to imagine the silver lawn in the moonlight as snow. We did have a snowball fight on Christmas, brought about by defrosting our freezer. That was in the days when defrosting was necessary or you would be overrun with ice. I do like the frost-free refrigerators, but I like snow in winter, not tropical temperatures. The best temp I saw in California was in San Francisco on the only day I was there when we flew out of Oakland, due to fog, to Hawaii and then Guam in November. The temperatures were wonderful for that time of year, and there was even color on their trees. That said, I grew up in Wisconsin, USA. With all the bizarre weather, I'm hearing from around the globe, I think I live in the best place on earth. No hurricanes, typhoons, with an occasional tornado, and wonderful blizzards. However, global warming has effectively shut down blizzards in the past few years, giving us milder winters than when I grew up when it was normal to see several feet of snow on the ground between November and March. Now, I'm lucky to see six inches at a time on the ground. I'll take it. Last year's April blizzard, which lasted three days, was the best blizzard to happen in a very long time. Summer here is hot and humid. It can get to 100% humidity but usually ranges in the 90% range through July, August, and early September. Though this year we're still seeing high humidity at the end of September. We also see decent rainfall in June, none in July, and more in August with an increase in humidity. This year we're breaking records for rain. Currently 8 inches above normal. We were praying for rain in late July, early August. We got it and then some. Our last storm gave us flooded streets, also not something you typically see in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Spring in Wisconsin is beautiful. We get nice rainfalls, keeping our lawns green from winter's snow runoff. Seeing plant life blooming and the trees blossoming in the lime green of spring gives a person hope for a beautiful summer to come. The temps are still reasonable, and the insect life hasn't come to life yet, not until June when you see an increase in flies, bees, but you also start seeing butterflies. Autumn in Wisconsin is gorgeous. We can see the trees changing as early as late August. Not this year. With the rain, we've had and the heat, trees are just starting to change. Temps are also starting to go down and become bearable once again. I enjoy waking to 40 F degree days, which makes going outside at 4:30 AM a joy compared to the hot breathless days of summer. Autumn also sees a decline in insect life. Though where we had flies that drove me crazy this summer, due to the rain we've had, mosquitoes are on the rise. So, far I haven't had any in my apartment, and I hope it stays that way. I put together my favorite pictures of the four seasons in Wisconsin. What is your favorite season? Thanks for reading.

There's a big weather difference between Northern and Southern California. It basically has not rained in SoCal in several years. I will take our perpetual sunshine and summer heat over snow, relentless rain, extreme cold and Midwest summer humidity any day.

It is what you are used to. I probably wouldn't like this ideal weather either if I grew up in California.

I like all the season even though we don't get much in winter (we average a measurable snowfall every 10 t0 12 year so we may be due this coming season

I saw one year that there was snow in every state. That doesn't happen very often.

@Elizaby I think the year I saw the 50 states snow information, there was snow in the panhandle of Florida.

They are the perfect weather seasons, not too hot or too cold.

@just4him - It is beautiful in Wisconsin in the winter. My husband and I once spent a wonderful weekend in a little hotel outside of Madison. We walked in the snow along the edge of a frozen lake. It was decades ago, but we still have happy memories of that weekend. However, I'm still happy living in Southern California ... even though you are absolutely right about the song. It either is dry or raining like cats and dogs! LOL

@just4him - Oh, we definitely did! I was thinking more about it today. It had to be in the fall of either 1976 or 1977. It was the weekend of the Madison - Purdue football game and all the hotels were full, so we drove outside Madison to this charming little hotel and had a wonderful experience. Sometimes things work out better than we ever expected.

I'm sure most of us love where we live no matter the climate. I love summer, late spring, and early fall. Every time we've traveled to California the weather has been glorious. Personally, Autumn in New England is magnificent.

I agree with your second paragraph, and here has been the same as your sixth one. Minus tornados. We don't get those. Really hoping we get a nice blizzard this winter. My favorite seasons growing up was summer followed by winter, but that was when there was alot more to do in the summer. Now it's more winter, then probably spring, before summer. But each seasons has their pros and cons to me.

Lovely proof of the 4 seasons. We have basically the same kind of weather pattern than you have. Spring, Fall, Winter and Summer.

Autumn and spring work for me. I can't stand bugs and as you said in Autumn there is a "decline in insect life" and in spring "insect life hasn't come to life yet." Also both seasons have reasonable temperatures where winter can be too cold and summer too hot. Beautiful pictures of the four seasons in Wisconsin @just4him .

Yes, those two seasons are the best when it comes to the decline in bug population. Though not having them at all in winter is awesome! Thank you.

I am opposite of you. Summer being number one and winter on the bottom. I think its more to do with where you were raised as to how you love the weather. I lived in Va. for 8 months, I never seen so much snow in my life, I was stuck in the house, hated it. Give me heat, humidity and very little clothing and I am happy.

One thing I NEVER considered in Wisconsin in my 20+ years living there was 'humidity.' I never found the humidity bad at all. In southern Illinois, where I live now, which is about 20 minutes from St. Louis, the humidity is godawful compared, Either way. As for winter? Ugh. I loathe winter. lol. I always found the summers in Wisconsin to be mild and pleasant, albeit VERY short.

I love the fact summer is short. I never noticed the humidity until a few years ago and realized it's always been here. You don't get much winter down there by St. Louis, do you?
