My car was broken into

Yesterday morning, I climbed into my SUV and noticed that the driver seat was in a semi-recline position. I never put it in that position. Looking around, I noticed that my $100 RayBan sunglasses were gone, as were a "cool looking" pair that I actually got from the Dollar Tree. The thief was kind enough to leave my actual favorite "artsy" shades, which I bought at a truck stop for $5. A further search revealed that a $5 bill was gone from my overhead bin, but my CDs, insurance papers, etc. were not disturbed. Nor were the amp and bass guitar in the back. The thief was obviously on foot. I did find one interesting piece of evidence: a Parliament cigarette butt, just outside my driver door. Nobody around here smokes that brand, so he probably just threw it down when he realized my door was unlocked. When I took my story and the cigarette butt to the front office, I was informed that other residents had had their cars broken into the same night. In each case, sunglasses were the target. Maybe the thief was a very large spider with light sensitivity issues.

Well, most spiders have compound eyes. Who else would need so many pairs of sunglasses?

I never leave anything in that I really want to keep. Keep an eye out for that spider, he would have to be fairly big.

@debjani1 And use all the sunglasses for protection from flying glass and such like. I was spared that indignity.

Yeah the fairly big spider can even eat the car if it is hungry.

I have learned over the years that no matter where I live, someone will steal from a car. I do not leave anything of value in the car.

Yep, that's true. Even in so-called "nice" neighborhoods, your stuff is at risk in a vehicle.

That is bad. Did you call the cops?? Is there a way to catch the thief?? He should not be left and encouraged for such things.

And they say India is unsafe...smh...half Indians don't know the value of Ray Ban sunglasses. LOL. East or west, India is the best...we can correct the problems by demanding right things.

The thief must have a way of selling the glasses cheap. He or she must have been on foot. They are looking for a woman in these parts that dumped a whole bunch of purses in a business dumpster. It caught her on camera. She was breaking into cars. Sorry you lost your glasses.

@TheHorse - That is so disturbing. We are having problems here in Southern California with people stealing the car batteries out of cars. They are having as many as 20 stolen a night in some neighborhoods. Many people have to park their cars in open parking lots or carports, so there is not much they can do about it. It must be very frustrating!!

The car battery thing was more common when I worked in Oakland. Often, you could buy your own battery back from the chop shop down the street.

@TheHorse I am sorry that they never solve them. It is a shame to have to go get new ones. I had to do that once too. I was watching someone do something and did not pay attention and my sunglasses fell on the floor and saw someone holding them. I had words with them before and could not prove they were mine so had to get new ones.

@TheHorse I'm happy you were able to let it go. Maybe you should be an example for me. One time, in my apartment building - I lost a pair of brand new jeans somewhere on my way to or from my car to my door. Retraced my steps - couldn't find them anywhere. SOmeone must have nabbed them. Only thing is - I can't think of anyone here who would have wanted them. I take a fairly unique size, lots of people are shorter and smaller.... and there's lots of men here who probably wouldn't wear womens jeans, so?? Why take them to be mean?

I think this was probably some homeless person who sells shades to buy food. Getting a car stolen is rare here. But getting your car broken into is part of "the cost of doing business" in the Bay Area of California.

This is terrible, somebody would do such a mean thing to you! It might sound strange, but I imagine they will resell those sunglasses, for 100% profit. We had hot bubble-gum stuffed in the door lock of our car, once. It was July, so this was a real mess to clean up!
