Diary Sunday 23rd September 2018 A very quiet laid back day between busy weeks. It was nice to do as little as possible for a change. Diary Monday 24th September 2018 Back to busy busy busy with a whole day of voluntary work. In the morning I packed over 100 goodie bags with leaflets, notebooks, etc for distribution to our audiences during the film festival at the university in just two weeks time. I had an hour for lunch which should have been plenty of time but I needed to get cash from a cash machine and finding one that wasn't empty took up half my hour. I got a rather bland kebab in a shop where they were reluctant to give me a receipt so insisting on one (I needed it to reclaim my lunch expenses) took up more time. Then the university lifts broke down so that slowed me down further and I only just made it to the classroom where I was helping run the class in social work in the afternoon was very last minute. Diary Tuesday 25th September 2018 Cheap food distribution day, my first in weeks due to other commitments, and I made the most of the chance to use the community centre computers and see my friends too. As my back-pack bag is falling apart, I recently ordered a replacement one on Amazon. The one that arrived was way too small for me. I cannot imagine many children it would fit either. Amazingly, a friend sent me an e-mail message that she found me one very cheap in a charity shop. She's getting it to me later this week. yay! One of the greatest things about being retired is I do things at MY pace, consequently no matter how busy I may let myself get I am not tired. I am still trying to figure out how I worked and did other things!!

I cannot understand why it is so difficult to obtain a receipt when we buy something. I am glad you found an inexpensive back-pack, you can send back the one ordered to Amazon.

LadyDuck I might keep it for storing files and papers at home - it can be put to some use

Seems like once things start going badly they tend to have the snowball effect. How neat that your friend found just the right back pack for you.

@Poppylicious yes I have a great deal of stuff that comes from charity stores - good to know the money paid helps others in need too

A lot of kebab shops seem to be 'cash only' and the only paper they issue is for wrapping chips.

@asfarasiknow yes very true - easier to avoid paying all their taxes if everything is off the record

Nice you had one day to do nothing. Wow all that trouble for your lunch the next day. And then the lift. Oh pity about the backpack you ordered just goes to show pics do not always show proper size. So tricky it is at times. Glad your friend found you a decent sized one then. Hope you may return that one from Amazon?

@Courage7 I might keep it to store things in the flat - I should have checked the sizes better so it is my fault I got this one

@arthurchappell Yeah I do check sizes I have learned but even so sometimes they are off. Well yes you may get some use out of it yet.

@Courage7 it could have used a photo of someone wearing the pack or holding it up on the Amazon page. It is just what I want but in a scaled down version

Awesome find from your friend! Are backpacks the same size there as it is in the USA? The kids ones are crazy big! My first grader can sit in hers !
