It's Unna Boot Time Once Again

I went to the vascular specialist three weeks ago to get veins near my wound injected, but it didn't help the healing move forward one little bit. I almost called to cancel today's appointment and see if I could move to the wound clinic instead but decided to wait and I'm glad I did. I kept my appt this afternoon and he, the vein specialist treated a squirly vein over the inside of my ankle that sometimes hurts worse than the wound itself. The PA/ physicians assistant tried to treat that vein sometime ago but didn't succeed. I think he was putting a different chemical into it and didn't run into the vein collasping like she did. He also injected something into the areas he treated in my last visit. The Unna Boot will help keep the area compressed more than my support stocking although they didn't opt to put that on the last time. That may partially be due to me not being able to tolerate it. After all I've been through, I'm hoping to tolerate it longer than I have thus far with this wound. When he was treating a sore on the front of my calf area two years ago I was able to handle the Unna Boot for each week they applied it. But for the lower wound it's been more difficult. I took off work for the next three days so I can keep my feet elevated more. If my fingers quit falling asleep maybe you'll see me around a bit more those days. If I owned a laptop I could get some business work done but I only have a desktop, tablet and this inexpensive smartphone. My left foot has the Unna Boot, the right a support stocking. I did my best to hide my odd toes from view.

I hope this will work this time Marsha, it's a long time you are in such big trouble with your veins.

@MarshaMusselman I think you should have gone on short term disability. The Unna boot surely helped my Mom.

@LadyDuck what's the longest she ever had her wounds? Had I had any inkling it could take this long I would have done so. In fact I'm thinking I of writing a post here directed at me to help remember why that would be a good idea if there is ever is a next time. In the mean time if the wound is better but then halts again I may just have to take off. Especially since I'm almost out of my vacation time.

If it does make a big difference it may be that because I can't work when wearing the Unna Boot and barely had one in this last year that could be why healing has been so slow. I have off the whole weekend so I'm hoping to leave it on until at least Sunday afternoon to see if helps enough. In retrospect maybe I should have gone on short term disability last winter and worn the Unna Boot and possibly it would have helped it heal that much quicker I don't know whether studies have been done that I'd have access to, to learn whether that may be the main reason why the healing is so slow.

And what may I ask is wrong with your toes. They look perfectly capable to me. Had to laugh with that last line of yours. I aint got no perty toes neither. Srsly, I hope this last treatment works well so you can get back comfortably on your feet. I pulled up this post this morning but the grand baby took me away from the computer before I could even read it. I see your daughter got married, I think I missed that post so have it up to read next. Maybe the holidays will be extra special this year. Might catch you dancing.

Dancing would be great even if it's only in my living room. I head fungal nails which a podiatrist trimmed but they are still odd. I should have had that done long ago.

@Namelesss do you use electric or battery operated tools? I've yet to get one of those ped devices. I have callouses on the ball of my right foot it might help with. I watch a lot of procedures but couldn't watch them work on my nails. I sort of wish I had for a few were quite high. I'm curious how they got obe of my nails to lie flat. It looked impossible to me.

@MarshaMusselman Every time I watch a podiatrist trim nails I wonder at their speed and efficiency. Takes me for ever.

Feeling bad for all the pain that you have been through for months now. Certainly hoping that this new way will help you tremendously.

@MarshaMusselman I can see that there is a lot of things to consider in your situation.

It's not completely new, just a little more done to more areas this time than the last. When he did the sclero therapy on that same ankle bone area back before July it was amazing how quickly things progressed. Maybe if he'd had the nurse put the Unna Boot on three weeks ago the results would have been better. The problem is my toleration levels and probably the cost of each application. It would probably also help a lot if I would take off work to elevate my feet even more after each application but then I wouldn't be able to do the window work either and our customers might go elsewhere. There's a lot to consider.

I hope I can tolerate the Boot once I head back to work again. It would give me a break from changing my bandage all the time. But, it seems like don't tolerate whatever I apply to the wound once it dries out and the Unna boot will do just that. Dry out a bit. I want to try to keep it on a week and I might find that gives better compression than just my support stocking. If I can keep it on a week even after I go to work maybe the wound will finally be much smaller.

@jaboUK I've heard for some patients these types of wounds can last a couple of years. For me it's been one and it's enough although I'm not to the point where I'd cut my foot off to eliminate the problem . Hopefully we'll find the right treatment plant to promote it closing up way before then.

Everyone has ugly toes... I get my nails (feet) colored a few times every year, its a gift to myself. They look fine and shiny the whole year now, expensive but worth it, I love wearing my sandals.

It's not my toes that are ugly but most of the nails themselves. I wear sandals in the summer but not when I go anywhere somewhat fancy. Now that the nails are trimmed back to a more normal place they aren't as bad but I don't know whether they will ever grow closer to the end of the toe . The nail bed on a couple are mucked up.

@MarshaMusselman it was my daughter who got me into coloring my toes, we often do it together, she keeps her toe nails pretty all year so i started doing that too.

Unna boots sound much more exciting than they are but hopefully it will help heal your leg and foot more quickly

I'm hoping to see a big improvement this time because of what was done and the Unna Boot too.
