Furniture designers should be shot!

I'm an early riser and will get up and sit with my computer where ever I can where I won't disturb anyone. I am discovering how uncomfortable furniture can be! Especially furniture that is supposed to be made to be sat in for more than a few minutes at a time. They should be strapped in their abominations for at least 24 hours to see how they withstand the pain! This morning I sat in the chair meant for sitting in front of the sewing machine. I don't know of many sewers that sit for five minutes and stand up. We usually are at the machine for hours at a time. I was in the chair for about 10 minutes and my back started complaining. After fifteen minutes I HAD to stand up as I couldn't stand the pain any further. I was up and down out of the "chair" for over an hour. I even contemplated sitting on the floor, except with two replacement knees I have even worse problems standing back up. Fortunately our company was up when I snuck in to get some iced tea. I pulled out the chair at the dining room table and parked myself with the computer. I discovered the dining room chairs weren't much better. I didn't even make it five minutes before my body was screaming. How can people sit in those chairs and eat? Okay, I moved from the dining room and am on the livingroom couch. It's a touch better but not that much. It hits just right in the back of my knees so that in the middle of the night my ankles spasm and I wake up screaming in pain. Sofas are supposed to be comfortable, aren't they???? Again I would sit on the floor except for the fact that I couldn't get up again. Also I sit on the sofa and work on teddy bears. I really think that before furniture designers are shot they should be tied to their machinations for at least 24 hours so they can enjoy the pain we go through, then covered with honey and tied to an ant hill so they can get some relief from their pain from the furniture then they should be taken out and shot! I would love some comfortable furniture to sit in!!!! How about you?

I have a comfortable office chair at the computer and my recliner is nice to use with my laptop so I'm lucky in that respect.

@BearArtistLady Haha. Good point about the guests. And yes, you need to be comfortable to do your work.

@JudyEv It is so hard to hand sew the bears when you hurt! I finally gave up and wrapped my left foot and that helped a bit to make me a bit more comfortable, but it still didn't cure the problem. I was going to call my doctor today and make an appointment today but it skipped my mind, I'll have to do it tomorrow. I'm tired of having the ache and swelling in my foot and ankle and waking up with my foot and leg swollen. I just want it to be a little bit normal once in awhile so that I don't feel like I'm two thousand years old waiting to be put together again like a jig saw puzzle. So I guess it's time to find a foot stool and get in to see the doctor again. And then I need to keep it in mind to keep the uncomfortable furniture for guests that I don't care too much about having stay too long for visiting... well, off to work on bears. Love and bear hugs Toni

I will have to say that there is one positive point to having uncomfortable pieces of furniture in the house. That is if you have company that you don't want to stay long, sit them in the uncomfortable stuff and you won't have them over stay their welcome and you'll be free of them rather quickly. It's either that or get a rather rambunctious dog that loves to sit in people's laps, it will get them out of the house rather quickly. All I want is my spot to be comfortable and not leave me so darned sore from sitting in it...especially if I need the spot to sit and do my work in it for so many hours!

Either that, or just get up a lot. No furniture is comfortable if sitting for very long is what I found. I cannot afford the $5000 chair either.

I can't afford to spend that kind of money on just one piece of furniture either! I have searched everywhere and haven't had any kind of luck. The furniture manufacturers just laugh on their way to the bank. They don't give a hoot about us poor people who are stuck with the stuff that we can't stand to sit in or lay on. Of course back in the "good ole days" people used to make their own furniture and would stuff the couches and chairs with horse hair that they saved from brushing their horses....and very often their beds were corn husks and corn cobs so they wouldn't complain about them. But still the stuff must have been comfortable as we survived as a race as we continued to have children and continued to live and continued to be able to sit on our furniture and do our work. But when it gets to the point in modern days when it's more comfortable to take a pillow and sit in the handicapped shower in the motel than to try to obtain the same measure of comfort by sitting on a pillow on the only chair in the main part of the room there is something radically wrong with the design of the furniture. I'm not looking forward to my having to purchase furniture for my home when my home is replaced. It is beyond my comprehension the thought of going out to shop for furniture at any of the furniture stores or thrift or consignment shops. All I can do is hope for some luck and that I will find some pieces of furniture that I can stand to have in my home that people, including myself, can stand to sit on for more than just a couple of minutes. And hopefully, above all, none of the stuff will cost above the $5000 mark!

I'd move then. I can use my laptop just about anywhere. Usually if I'm writing I'm in the chair or on the bed.
