Insert eyeroll here.

So, a few days ago I asked a perfectly harmless question of a fellow user here on myLot. Every single time said user has commented on something, or I have seem them post anything here they have written in text speak. She in turn, blocked me. Because I asked her why she wrote everything in text speak! Now granted, I don't have perfect spelling. My punctuation is sometimes off, and I get letters mixed up from typing too fast, or not paying attention when I type. But one thing I avoid, is text speak. It drives me bonkers to see people write in text speak. That's not just here, that's anywhere. On forums, on facebook and even in text messages. You aren't saving any time by writing 4 instead of for, or b instead of be. You just make everything you write look like a eight year old who got ahold of mommy's phone wrote it. I'm eye-rolling because people still type in text speak. I'm eye- rolling because it's technically against the rules here, and I'm eye-rolling because what a stupid reason to block someone. Anyhoo, I hadn't ranted in a while so I needed to get that out of my system.

Pretty sad when adults can't just write out words properly.

I mean seriously, is it that hard to put some effort into commenting back. She also posted a discussion that was like twelve words long. How is that a discussion?

@thislittlepennyearns What do you expect from someone who can't handle typing full words?

@NJChicaa That's true. One day I'm gonna write out a whole post of all the stupid reasons people have blocked me.

I can't stand text speak either. Apart from it being against myLot rules and looking like a toddler wrote it, I find it difficult to decipher. The worst person I know for that sort of thing is my step-daughters' mum. She says she's dyslexic (no idea if she actually is but, if she is, she must be the only dyslexic person I know to type the way she does) but it makes no sense to me that someone who is dyslexic would purposefully change the way they type such that it doesn't look like words. It's not always so bad if it is a short sentence or two but when people write several paragraphs, I feel like I need a Chav dictionary to translate it all. Surely, especially with predictive text and no word limit, it would be easier to use proper words.

I know dyslexic people who write perfectly normal complete sentences. I think your step daughters mom has a case of the lazy and wants an excuse to write the way she does. There are a couple users here that you can tell are fluent in English (it's their first language) yet insist on butchering what they write. They write in text speak, put in unnecessary capital letters, don't believe in correct punctuation etc. I get that people make mistakes. We all do. But that many and it isn't a mistake, its someone being lazy .

I'm with you! I don't know how often I've already left comments concerning text speak. I point out that it is against the Guideline rules. You're right, it is infantile. I also find it offensive in conversations with grown-ups. We're not in kindergarten here. If someone hasn't got the time to write properly, I refuse to have any contact with such a person. I don't block them but stay away from them.

Amen! If you are going to write on a forum used by adults, at least act like you are educated enough to write a sentence like an adult..

A sad sign communication is being reduced to text speak. Pretty soon we will revert to grunts.

I get bugged when people who can't write in complete legible sentences don't get warned about it or anything. Especially on a paid forum.

She drives me crazy. I might respond to her on occasion but I don't usually keep up a conversation with her. The whole !!! thing drives me crazy as well.

Even the titles to her posts are obnoxious. No one is that excited about everything. And she uses random capitalization. Which is cute in Paper Towns but not so much when an adult uses it .

I thankfully have not interacted with this person. But I would ignore that as it drives me crazy for the most part too.

Writing posts in text speak is also against MyLot rules. It's right there in the community guidelines.
This is where you will find out what kinds of behavior are accepted and unaccepted on myLot. When in doubt, remember the Golden Rule!

Maybe next time she posts a discussion, someone will clue her in. Not that it matters, she probably won't pay attention
