Ronaldo accused of rape

The worlds greatest footballer, Christiano Ronaldo, is being accused of rape by a woman named Kathryn Mayorga. In 2009 his lawyers paid off the accuser who said she had gone to a bedroom with him and had rough sex that 'got out of control'. Documents seem to prove that Ronaldo admitted that he 'kept going' when he should have stopped. It happened in Los Vegas and although the women in question would not class herself as a prostitute he job was to hang around the bar at a casino bar and 'entice men in' to gamble and drink. She flirted with Ronaldo, they went upstairs and the deed was done. Its unclear if she knew who the footballer was and that influenced her accusations but she was paid off to the sum of £375,000. Now, in the current climate, she has come forward and gone public, breaking the contract clause of keeping quiet, why she got the cash, I guess. Some would say she has resurfaced to get more cash and has obviously failed , hence the disclosure. Others would say her rape wasn't worth 375k after all and she wants justice. I would day she blackmailed him back then. This is not a new tactic when exploiting famous people. Ronaldo has called it 'fake news'.

I've always thought he was gay and had girlfriends purely as a disguise as, as far as I know, there are no openly gay top flight footballers. I'm always suspicious when famous people are accused of rape...there's always the cash question. Pretty bad of me really as I know some famous people have committed the crime and it's easy to smear a victim.

"I'm always suspicious when famous people are accused of rape...there's always the cash question." It depends of who is accused and of the accusation. I could hardly believe the accusations of rape against Depardieu last month : the woman would have been raped two times in his home. She was raped and came back a week later to be raped again ??? He is 70 years old and has never been known to have assaulted a woman (to be a drunkard, yes).

@Mike197602 Our justice hates to have a "non guilty" decision coming from a jury. It was happening in 30% of cases during the 19th C and less than 1/100 today because investigating judges are sending to courts people only when they think that they will be sentenced by a jury. If not, or they give another qualification to have a sentence from professional judges (they do not sue for a crime/felony but for a misdemeanor), or they dismiss the case, that can be re-opened later on new evidences.

@topffer How about the case here recently, against a music teacher by some of his (former) students - perhaps this one should not have made it to court:
Londonderry violin tutor Brian Bergin had been accused of sexually assaulting four girls.

This is why famous people should avoid getting laid with people who they don't know. Just too greedy in my opinion.

Well, would you pay someone who accuses you of rape or would you go to the police to denounce the woman for for attempted extortion?
