Laguna Beach is a romantic town. Thousands of young couples come here every year to get married or have their honeymoons in one of the gorgeous hotels that dot our coast. However, many people may not realize that there are deer living in the 20,000 acre wilderness area which lies behind the homes of Laguna Beach. To be honest, I have only seen one deer, although I have seen their tracks when I have hiked in the wilderness area. This weekend, the City of Laguna Beach posted the photo above, along with the following statement: "Drivers beware: It's deer mating season, and they're very active right now. We've had several recent incidents of deer-versus-car incidents in Laguna Beach. Please drive carefully." I guess it isn't just newly married humans who think it is romantic to hang out around Laguna Beach!

Good thing that the community is thinking about welfare of the deers as well. Giving that warning would mean that there may be less dee and car accidents from happening or if it does happen it would be lessened. Let's give them a break to do their own thing.

@DeborahDiane A win-win situation for both species. But we humans have to be more aware since the deer is not aware of this and we are more intelligent being to have the wisdom of protecting them.

@rsa101 - You are right. That message is good for both the deer as well as the people in their cars. I hope people pay attention to the sign!

@rsa101 - You are right. We have to be the ones to take precautions. The deer cannot read the signs! LOL

@DeborahDiane There are very few hunters and they are necessary not to let the deer and boars population grow too much. They cannot hunt everywhere only in designated areas.

@LadyDuck - Yes, I agree that hunters are necessary, especially in areas where there are too many animals and not enough predators. Here in Southern California, we have only a few deer, so it is not necessary to hunt them. Occasionally our community hires hunters to control the coyote population, which can get really out of control. They are dangerous when they form large groups and go after cats and dogs. We even had some people in our community who had the terrible experience of a coyote ripping a screen off a window, jumping inside, and killing their cat while the people were sitting just a few feet away! You can imagine how frightening that was!

@LadyDuck - It would not be very fair to the deer to have hunting season and deer season at the same time! We have a hunting season in California, but not very many people hunt here anymore. Those who do, only do it in special designated forest areas.

I thought you were in the Philippines because there's a province called Laguna where Laguna de Bay is. Laguna de Bay is a very big lake where plentiful fish abound.

@Tampa_girl7 - I am not sure, but it would make sense that the deer would mate in the fall and the babies would be born in the spring.

Ithink that is delightful. Hope the deer find the love they seek. Many years ago I will never forget I was still living in Latvia and there was this tourist attraction upon a hill with statues. Down the hill there was an open field, a parking lot for tour buses and a hilltop cafeteria. A friend and I were having lunch and we saw a tour bus pull in. Instead of going right up the hill to see the statues all the tourists with camera poised were standing in the parking lot. We wondered what was up and then we saw in the field right in front of everyone a bull had just started mating with a cow. They were having a wonderful time with not a care in the world

@RasmaSandra - How romantic! I can understand why the tourists were as fascinated by that as they were by the statues!

@JohnRoberts - I saw a deer once, about 15 years ago, that is how rare it is. I was really surprised that there had been encounters between cars and the deer here in Laguna. I imagine it was late at night, but that is just my guess. I suppose there are a few in Angeles National Forest and some of the other wilderness areas around here, but I'm not sure.

@DeborahDiane exactly, it would be interesting to watch if they are like dogs, or they are like ducks. something to that effect.
