Ya know, it's bad enough that everything we eat is full of chemicals, pesticides, hormones, steroids.......but when you think something is okay; you get the shock of your life. I got some frozen, stuffed baked potatoes where the main ingredients are: sour cream, cheddar, bacon and chives. Then when you scroll down to the other '30 ingredients', you come across something that says, "Locust Bean Gum." Say what?? I had to Google it. It is a a thickening agent that comes from a pod from the Carob Tree in the Mediterranean. Now why is that crap in my potato?! And since it also goes by the name of Carob Tree Gum, why use the term Locust??? And why would even the Carob Tree Gum be used in my danged potato!!!!! I swear, we don't need to be embalmed when we die because we're already embalmed. Cheers to healthy eating.

It's called "Locust", but it has nothing to do with insect. Do not worry, this one is not dangerous, it is a thickening agent., surely to avoid that the cheddar and sour cream liquefy when you heat your potato.

@MarshaMusselman Well gelatin is made with fish cartilage, but it can also extracted by cow or pig. If you eat the Jell-o, the gelatin is from animal source.

We used to sell a yogurt that was German possibly and it was thickened with tilapia some way. I couldn't eat the yogurt after reading about that. I heard years ago that I've cream had traces of lighter fluid, whether that was true or not I never checked. But recently someone heard that popular baby foods has small traces of arsenic which is allowed in various adult foods too.

Like you, I'm surprised they use the term 'locust'. That would put a lot of people off if they read down that far.

It is scary when we read what is in processed food, I always have a baked potato so I know exactly what is in it. I like butter, sour cream and salt and pepper. Sometimes I will put shredded cheese on top.

You ain't kidding @ramapo17 . From now on, it's gonna be a 'real' potato with just butter & pepper on it.

Seriously! I avoid all general mills products and store knock offs because they add paint thinner to it. Seriously, if a parent poured paint thinner in kids food they would be arrested! Why is it safe for companies to add it to Cheerios and other stuff?

You got me @Daelii . There really is no reason to put all this 'other' crap in our foods.
