Physical world and the Imaginary

Escapism

We have flights of fantasy that take us away from being trapped in this physical world. I like to escape from this world often. We all do in our dreams. Imagination has no borders. We are free to roam about. Some are in their own world all the time while others are ever alive here to make hay while the sun shines. Imaginary world is soothing when the reality hurts. I like to let my imagination roam about to take me to places that I know nothing of and enjoy my dream world. It is a real blessing to have this privilege and escapism. People can be hurtful here but we can surround ourselves with those who are “custom built” to suit and soothe our yearnings. How often do you alternate between the two? Oh yes I have had to use this trick at one time in life when I was literally trapped. I did survive it by creating an imaginary world.

We are indeed blessed to have this gift! Do other species have this too but they have to run for their lives at a moment's notice to save themselves 24/7? Maybe, they are blessed otherwise that we are not aware of - siva

@Shiva49 Yes that is a good observation Shiva. We indeed are blessed to have this gift, where as other species do not.

Everyday I do. It feels good but too much fantasy causes pain when you realise that it can't come true.

Yes, but what a relief it gives! The rich may have nightmares of being poor while the poor have sweet dreams! siva

I usually do that when I watch a science-fiction movie. I'm gone!

@Shiva49 It's like when I'm on the bus. I am not driving the bus. I am just an observer enjoying the trip.

I often switch to my imaginary world. A place where people are kind, there are no problems and everything is peaceful. It's a way to go on and forget about the problems.

Our creator knows we need it! Our frequent trips do not cost anything but soothe our nerves and we can return to reality fully refreshed - siva

Our imaginations are great distractions in times of stress. I don't need to exercise mine too often.

They are sort of safety valves, come to our rescue, bail us out in times when we feel in the pits. I feel there should be some reality behind the wanderings of our minds - siva

Well may be because real life has so many pain giving and stress inducing points, I spend time here on mylot and also reading books and novels. Going into the imaginary sometimes also gives us idea to come back with more ideas and thoughts of how to deal with real life situations.

Our creator knows this world is not for the faint of heart and has given us an escape valve to let off steam by drifting into the dream world at will. Then we have dreams during sleep that we do not control but we slip into them and wonder about their significance and connection to our life here. Other species may not have this luxury, so let us cherish this human life - siva

I guess all of us have their own imaginary world that they escape to. Yes, I do that once in a while and mostly I dream of that imaginary and perfect world before I fall asleep. That way, the chances of living such situations in my dream are higher.

We can go anywhere, be anyone, in our imaginary world. What a relief then for some escapism when life here gets tough - siva

All the time, I love to write flash fiction when I get into the realm of the imaginary or sometimes it is poetry.

@Shiva49 Indeed, when one lacks certain things, one needs to get those things and is stressed that he or she is losing on many things. Yet when one is very rich, then one tends to fear about losing things or money. Well, nothing is simple in life! Or do we ourselves make things complicated?

We are blessed to have this escape valve. We can even have flights of fancy for material possessions. I like to say the poor tend to be happy dreaming of becoming rich while the rich have nightmares of losing it all! siva

Prayer is always golden as it connects us to Gold, (or to God and his love)
Imagination is, to me, a great tool of our minds, which even the great minds like Albert Einstein, have utilised in their own lives. What is our imagination, and how does it fit in with our dreams, and our prayer, and even into our Christian living from God's love? Prayer is a reality of love, and not just any figment of our imagination. The imagination is an outlet of our consciousness, which links us to our own unconsciousness, to the greater unconsciousness of the world, as well as to the collective consciousness of all beings too. If I had a choice between the two though, I would rather, though, live from the love in my heart, as I think that consciousness (any form of consciousness), on its own cannot show me the realness of the reality of God. Only love can take us into this inner knowingness that God shares with us in prayerful contact with himself. Imagination then has its uses, but we should not place its importance in our lives, as being greater than love is. Thanks, Steve. Imagination inspired by love links us to the creation and higher consciousness. Imagination then breaks down all borders and we feel truly one, part of the whole that we really are. Our feeling of separation and ego get dissolved and we then ride the unity in diversity. Such forays into the imaginary world refresh, rejuvenate and recalibrates the focus of our pursuit as co-creators in our own way to fulfill our creators purpose for us being here - siva

@Shiva49 Well said siva. Imagination works best when inspired by love. I agree with you there.
