6hours!

Happy Tuesday afternoon to all of us. I missed interacting in this site. Yesterday, I had the ‘me’ time resting for my shift at 3PM-11PM. My son fetched me (without my sister) at 10:20PM; we dismissed our students because today, we had the first case colloquium of the level 4 students on ‘’breast cancer’’. Right after I and my son arrived and after he closed the gate, he went directly to bed and my sister also said she should rest. (She was bitten by Sydney but that is another story.) As for me, I cannot sleep at once because I was so tired with our duty. I had only 6 students- 1 team leader, 1 medication student-nurse, and 4 students to handle 1 very toxic patient each. 6 hours-- that was the total number of hours I slept last night. I watched a foreign series before I closed my eyes. I also woke up at 5:30 AM, where I prepared coffee for the 3 of us. I also cooked rice through the rice cooker. My son drove the car; we went to school together, and my sister was left alone at home with the 11 dogs. It is no longer a surprise for me to be the earliest bird once again. I think our students also know that value I have, which I want them to develop as well. But I was not sleepy during the case presentation. I was in my usual self of being the inquiring clinical instructor, giving out some light jokes so the students won’t doze off. Do you feel energetic the next day despite sleeping only 6 hours at night?

I only slept for a total of 4 hours the other night. Lucky that you could keep up with your work.

@ridingbet Some times I can't sleep to being over tired. I'm glad you saw your show on your phone.

Yes I think I am especially when preparing for a long run, few hours of sleep does not hold me to be active. But not always.

would this therefore mean that when you have no activity the following day, sleeping at linger periods of time will make you lazy and not energetic?

Actually no, I still have my activity, i go to work and doing some things in the house. Maybe I'm used to it now.

Most of the days I do not sleep more than 6 hours per night, this is enough for me.

my sister sometimes complains she wakes up at 2 AM and cannot get her sleep again. i think it is in her subconscious mind to be awake at that time because our parents left us between 2AM to 3 AM.

6 hours is gold for me. If I can sleep 5-6 hours, I am good and that regained my energy

i think and believe the quality of sleep should matter more than the number of hours we sleep at night.

It depends I think. Sometimes my body moves freely like a chameleon. If the situation needs me to be energetic it shows the color of energy.

thanks for saying your piece, but a chameleon moves slowly; therefore, do you move at slow pace when you sleep less than 6 hours at night?

@ridingbet I think it was me who created that or commented on it. I will check. But I remember that. My work starts at 5 AM. That's the reason I wake up early.

3AM? maybe it is your work that keeps you awake at that early time. is it you who made a discussion that you actually leave your house very early, for your work? or maybe another Filipino mylotter?

It depends. Sometimes even with less sleep, I still feel energetic but most of the times sleepy

i think if we sleep soundly between 11 PM and 3 AM, it is already considered a good sleep.

I sleep very badly lately. I get about 4 and a half to 5 hours sleep but I do manage to get through the day. It is good you are still prompt and a wonderful clinical instructor.

thank you. i guess it is in my circadian rhythm to be awake before 6AM, with duty or none, but i do get some sleepy eyes when the environment is so conducive to nod.

That sounds like a very busy day you had there. Sleeping for few hours makes me very sluggish

so, you need the theoretically required 8 hours of sound sleep at night in order to work well the following day?

@aureliah i think the 8-hours requirement does not hold true anymore. as long as the sleep is deep, and you are rested, it is already good.

me as well, i need to have a nap when i am home, but often times, my nap turns into deep sleep while seated in front of the TV set. i also have bouts of headache when i am roused from my sleep.

@BabeSays i guess it is the exhaustion that gets me to have deep sleep even while seated, and in front of the TV set

Are there any surgeons in your students? Surgeons must be up very early to operate. I am sorry your sister was bitten. You have 11 dogs? Wow Yes I can function very well on only 6 hrs or less.

no, i handle level 4 nursing students. i think surgeons have the 24 hour duty but they cannot operate the whole 24 hours duty because they have their own field of specialty.

me, if the activity in the morning is not active or there is less interaction among people, my 6 hours of sleep will need more hours.
