Weird Word Wednesday- Ephemeral

I've heard this word but it's not one that I've used. I wasn't sure of its meaning. It sounds very nice in my opinion. When I was looking up images for this word, I found one of a white puffy dandelion and another one was a housefly. The one with the housefly said that a fly's life is ephemeral, only lasting a month. Well, I definitely prefer the thought of a dandelion or a lovely shooting star over the mental image of a housefly. Is "ephemeral" a word that any of you know or use in conversation? I'd be more likely to use it in a story or poem instead of talking.

The word means short term. Like for example don't make your memory ephemeral.

@BloggerDi No problem. Haha I've just encountered that word lately. I was trying to freshen my memory if I still know it.

I don't use ephemeral very often but I do use ephemera a lot. It means almost the same thing but refers specifically to printed matter----magazines, brochures, newspapers, etc---that is not intended to be kept. It's a fun thing to collect.

@xander6464 I love the word! I don't love all ephemera in my house that piles up so fast. I have quite a lot right now that I need to get rid of. After all it's "not intended to be kept". What can I say? I'm a procrastinator.

My French boyfriend always use this word. And other weird words that I didn’t know could be used in a conversation. He would always tell me that he would not be stupid and trade me with something ephemeral so I should not worry when he’s away.

Yes, I knew the meaning of the word "ephemeral" had heard it in quite a few woo woo documentaries my sister watches, but no, I can't recall using it in a conversation with someone.

@BloggerDi I am just being impossible when I describe spooky or documentaries on mysteries as "woo woo" it annoys my sister. But good to know you would use the description too.

I think I had occasion to use it in one of my old poems about love being too fleeting an emotion. I wouldn't use it in a conversation though as it might be misconstrued as being pretentious
