Relief from IBS

I have actually been feeling better from my IBS than I have in a long time. To be specific (and maybe TMI) I have had normal bowel movements, no cramps. I've been watching videos on IBS and it appears there are many different kinds. Well... of course there are. We are all different individuals with different chemical make-ups. There must be truth about "Eating for your Blood Type". But learning all the things that can affect you is mind blowing. Someone had told me that salad could affect according to the way it is prepared. It is recommended that field greens be fermented - washed several times, sprinkled with olive oil and left to sit overnight. All foods with seeds aren't good - berries, cucumbers, watermelon, tomatoes, etc. But again, this varies from individual to individual. Rice is loaded with metals. But the changes I made were before I watched all these videos. The first thing I have done was given up my evening bowl of cereal. That means milk. I still put very little milk in my tea in the morning but I no longer wake up feeling sick or have cramps before I go to bed. Also, the IBS was causing me to have many burst hemorrhoids. The second thing I have done is been snacking on mixed nuts - peanuts, walnuts, brazil nuts, cashews, almonds. According to the information I learned, the "jackets" on nuts such as almonds are hard to digest. Soak almonds in water overnight so the jackets will come off easily. I don't have a problem though. The addition of nuts (which is mega protein) is making a big difference. And lately, I have been drinking more fruit smoothies. Specifically berry smoothies. I guess the seeds don't bother me (or it's the way they are prepared), though I do believe it is possible cucumbers and tomatoes affect my stomach. Those are the few small changes I have made. I know protein is important which is why I started eating nuts. Snacking on them removed the need for that bowl of cereal at night. I thought giving up cereal at night was going to be so difficult, but having something to replace it with has made it easier. There is so much information on what various foods can affect IBS depending on the KIND of IBS you have and your own biological make-up. I have been stubbornly holding onto certain foods (dairy) and suffering the consequences. I can still have dairy, a wee bit, but the addition of nuts and smoothies has done a great job for me.

What about if you added non dairy milk periodically? It could be a bit difficult to adjust to but I've used various brands and types in my smoothies. I wouldn't think you'd have any issues with those but maybe your store doesn't have a lot it's variation? Also, is think you could eat the food that contains seeds if you get them out first. Such as cucumbers , melon and some others. You also may want to make sure the videos you're getting your info from is legit, from those that studied nutrition it that are in the medical field.

Yes, the woman in the video is a licensed professional. I'm not sure whether it's dairy or lactose that is the issue. I have lactose free yogurt and it doesn't cause issues, same with lactose free ice cream. So I think it's more lactose than dairy, though I can't go overboard with cheese. My youngest was lactose intolerant as a youngster and still is to some extent. She just avoids milk as well. Yes, she did suggest removing the centre of tomatoes when using them to eliminate the seeds so I guess that could work with everything else with seeds.

It is really a challenge but you seem to be informed about what needs to be done.

I have been informed for awhile but just too stubborn to give up the foods I love. But when the hemorrhoids started bleeding I had to make a change.

Keeping a food diary and then eliminating foods for periods of time while tracking changes is helpful in finding what works for you. I love corn....corn doesn't like me, so I watch others enjoy it. Cucumbers in small portions....the fresher the better.....Melons? Nope....not passing my lips.

Corn is very hard to digest. It doesn't like a lot of people. Blueberries are the same way.
