I learned late on that a good friend from back in Manchester has been rushed to hospital after what his wife describes as a mild heart attack. Rather sad news. I have sent him a get well soon card. I went to do some of my voluntary work. I expected conflict with the management lady who told me yesterday that I had to do assignments for her rather than attending an important meeting I already had booked and planned. I had ended up pointing out that as a volunteer and not paid styaff any such choices are mine. She never said a word about this but she did rudely snap at me that I was forbidden to wait in the usual volunteering office as it is in the process of being closed and relocated. I only sat in there as usual as there was no notice up to say it was out of bounds or designated unsafe. Her snappy attitude was obviously just due to the e-mail war she lost the previous day. She could have told me without such a needlessly aggressive outburst. The assignments went well. Helping the new medical students was very pleasant and in the afternoon I went to the meeting I had planned to go to all along, getting final instructions for the work needed for the film festival that dominates next week. We got a tour of the new office facility the volunteer group will be in (a different building but still on the university campus). There wasn't much to see as it is just an empty office block until the furniture is all moved in there in the next few days. Youtube - Pink Floyd - We Don't Need No Education Arthur Chappell

In a week, how many times you go and volunteer for the help of medical students??

@anya12adwi usually about twice a week but the film festival is a full week of activity - mostly in the evenings

She was probably responsible for no notice about not being able to use the old office being up, too.

Geez and sorry buddy, probably should not but feel the need. All that voluntary work that no one gets paid for, how about that for injustice since people so concerned. oh wait they not, hypocrites. Love how you keep an upbeat spirit though. You neat guy I definitely be in trouble if offered to work for free and they still mad at me.

This old song brings back happy memories. I am so glad that the assignment went well. The attitude of the lady was totally wrong, she was wrong to ask to cancel your plans and she had only to blame herself.

Their attitude towards unpaid volunteers is unbelievable.

Hopefully the lady will get over her 'loss'. It seems she needs a reminder about what 'volunteer' really means.

@JudyEv very much so. Hearing now that she was offered a shared promotion with another staff member but somehow swung the interview so that he got knocked out of the running and she got the job to herself. She is ruthless, like Alexys in Dynasty

@arthurchappell Hopefully she'll get her come-uppance one day. That's another interesting saying isn't it?
