Party in the Pasture

What a better place to have a party than in a big cow pasture? Last night, country superstar Luke Bryan rolled into town on his Farm Tour to play a concert in the middle of nowhere, in...you guessed it...a big cow pasture. Luke's Farm Tour is a separate tour outside of his regular concert tour where he goes to about 10-12 farming communities each year and plays a big concert to raise money for scholarships for future farmers to attend college. This is the second time Luke Bryan came to Gainesville (well, about 20 miles/32 kilometers outside of Gainesville) with his Farm Tour. I was fortunate enough to attend both times, and what fun it was! I got out of work later than I wanted to, but managed to get to the field where the concert was just as the setting sun was making its way low on the horizon. I had tickets in the VIP section, so I was able make my way right up to the front of the stage with no problem. The weather was great, and other than it being a Thursday night, it was the perfect evening for a great country concert. Have any of you ever seen Luke Bryan in concert? The only bad part of my experience was that I had to be at work at 5:00am this morning, so I just stayed up all night so I wouldn't have to worry about sleeping through my alarm. I only had to work half a day today, so I will be catching up on my sleep this afternoon.

Unfortunately, I still have not caught up on sleep. With only a couple of hours of sleep here and there, I've been going non-stop since Wednesday. But it's been really fun. This was my fourth time seeing Luke Bryan in concert (two Farm tours, two regular tours), and no matter how many times I've seen him, it's always a great time.

@Courtlynn Luke Bryan is probably my favorite country artist. Other than seeing Luke four times, I've also seen Jason Aldean and Florida Georgia Line three times.

@moffittjc that's how I feel about seeing Josh Turner and Scotty McCreery, who I've seen 2 times each. I could keep going to their concerts and never be disappointed. But really want to see other country stars too, like luke. hope you can catch up with sleep this weekend.

I hope the cows were alright. I hope they enjoyed the music! I think the week before the farmers moved the cattle out of the area to another pasture, so they could prepare the field for the concert. There were 20,000 people there, which I couldn't believe they could fit that many people in a field in the middle of nowhere!

@amadeo You can go on Ticketmaster's website and search for concerts in your area. Or, you can go to LukeBryan.com and also see about Luke's upcoming concerts.

@DianneN That is weird about him, because he does seem that way in real life, but then he gets up on stage and a whole different side of him comes out.

I’ve never heard of Luke Bryan but the concert was for agood cause. Sounds like a great time was had by all. I don’t hear the latest music! Most of my music comes from the radio, The River in Atlanta.

You live in Georgia and have never heard of Luke Bryan? He's a Georgia native, and went to Georgia Southern. He's a very popular country artist.

@RubyHawk What type of music are you referring to as "oldies?" Music from the 70s and even early 80s can be considered "oldies" these days! lol

@moffittjc I don’t listen to music other than when I’m in the car and it’s usually the oldies. I’m way behind. I don’t know any of the latest stars. Shameful.

@velvet53 Some of these opportunities we'll never get back if we don't take advantage of them when they appear before us. We only live once, so we might as well enjoy our short time here on this rock.

@LadyDuck I had a busy Sunday. It started off with a 6-hour practice with my paintball team, followed by lots of laundry when I got home. I was finally able to relax late in the afternoon and watch some NFL Football.

@bluesa "Sunrise, Sunburn, Sunset" is Luke Bryan's brand-new song. I think it just recently hit #1 on the music charts here. If you like Florida Georgia Line, then you may like the song that Luke Bryan and FGL did together, "This is How We Roll." That was a huge #1 hit for them. Let me know if you like it.

I was expecting them to be all over the field, but when I asked one of the event staff he said they removed the cattle off the property the week before, and then spent the entire week clearing the field, cutting the grass, and making sure it was in good shape by the date of the concert.

@pgntwo Here in Florida, probably for about 8 or 9 months out of the year, it would be too wet and rainy here to have an outdoor festival or concert, or else we would also look similar to the scene in your photo!

How long did the concert go? But I guessed even it it was over at a reasonable time it would take longer than normal to quiet the mind down enough for sleep. What I keep wondering is did anyone take for cow pies ahead of the concert? Otherwise, people may want to double check their shoes or boots after the show. Or maybe all the puppies are hard but now?

The concert started at 7pm (with the opening acts), and ended at 11pm. But it took a very long time to get out of there. Being that it was in a giant field in the middle of nowhere, there was only one way in and out...a little 2-lane country road. So it took about 2 hours just to get out of there and back home. I did not see any cow pies out there at all, and the field was mowed beforehand, so I'm sure they took precautions in making sure the field was clean.

@MarshaMusselman When you have close to 15,000 people all trying to get out at the same time, on the same little back country road, it can take a while. I just feel sorry for any neighbors or other farmers that were inconvenienced by the whole ordeal. Although I think the same farmer owns all the land for miles around.

@moffittjc well that's good regarding them mowing beforehand. Wow a two hour drive after the event. Now I understand even more why you didn't want to sleep before work.

@Poppylicious I'm about 99% sure some university somewhere in the world has done research into that. And it was probably funded with government money. A wise use of my tax dollars I'm sure.

They've had concerts in paddocks here too and it's great if there is a really loud band and lots of young people. They all stay the night in their vehicles or whatever and drive home next day.
