My husband has been in Nepal a week now and is enjoying his trip. A group have hired a bus and driver and went from Damon to Chitwan. The roads there are something else and the route from Kathmandu to Damon took four hours for the first 25km and a total of 8 hours to do 70 kms. The next day they did 75 kms in 8 hours. Vince said the road was very narrow and winding. At one stage they could see four levels of road on one side and four levels on the other so at that point they must have been on a ridge. Tomorrow they head for Lumbini which is where the group have funded the installation of some wells and where they will distribute more help in various ways. Vin and I have raised money with some raffles at our concerts and through the proceeds of sales of photos at an endurance ride we attended in Tasmania. We may spend this money on bikes for some of the children who battle to get to school because they live so far away. Vince has spoken to a contact there who thinks this would be a good use for the money. He (Vince) also has over a suitcase full of clothes to distribute to the children.

We had only bought a few from thrift stores when someone dropped three big boxfuls on the doorstep. We still don't know who did it.

It is nice of you two to do so many charitable deeds for the people there! Lumbini was the birthplace of Lord Buddha.

Thank you. It all came together quite easily really. Vince has visited Buddha's birthplace and the leader of the group is very involved with Buddhism.

I think the direct contact is the best. So no money can disappear in mysterious ways.

We feel very happy about contributing in this way. I think he has even managed to sort out the problem we had with the bank over there - if you remember from a previous post. It was their error and nothing to do with our young friend. That was the issue worrying us the most.

@just4him Yes, it is not a lot of fun trying to function as a tourist if you're suffering from a cold.

The group, over a few years, have installed over 30 wells and they are not the only group putting in wells in the area. The water situation is much better now so they are turning their attention to a couple of poor schools that they are helping. The Sell for a Well money might go to buy a couple of computers for the school.

@Shiva49 It isn't always easy to find a way to volunteer in a physical sense and money is always needed. Your friend is doing a marvellous job. Some of our elderly here have no-one so they have few visitors. Having someone spend a little time with them would mean so much especially towards the end of their lives.

@JudyEv People with a heart and a will to help those in need are more useful than leaders who tend to lord over their 'subjects". In a way, it resonates "the hands that serve are holier than the lips that pray". I am into charity mostly by way of cash donations but being right there is the real deal. My friend, after retirement, finds fulfillment in looking after the elderly by way of palliative care. He says they are like his family and makes him realize how blessed he really is being able to be of help - siva

@JudyEv That's great! Here in some villages the children also live far away from the school. Some even have to climb a mountain. It is hard to imagine if we haven't seen it.

He was buying bikes for some children today. It means they will be able to go to school. At the moment they really live too far away to go regularly. I can just imagine their faces when they are given their bike.

I could have gone but too much travelling over bad roads in bumpy buses would really play up with my back so I opted out.

@snowy22315 I think so. Besides, it's all males which is fine but they're probably better off without me.

If they visit Lumbini, asked them to visit Buddha's birth place called Kapilavastu, which is birth place of Lord Buddha. Generally people or we foreigners visit heritage sites , temples, cities in Nepal. But there is much more to visit which is called Pahad(which means mountain and for the peoples of Nepal those are countrysides). Why I am suggesting to visit those areas because it give you a real pleasure of experiencing natures, you could see the lives of peoples those who are living in mountains area of nepal. You may not believe but there are some peoples after visiting these areas, they permanently settled there for whole life. Here I'm leaving a link for you please check this For more you can keep touch with me through mylot message

Vince visited Lord Buhhda's birthplace when he was there two years ago. He spent much of his time in the country and they will be visiting more small villages this time too. Thank you for our interest.

They are doing a great job bringing the money and what is needed directly to the populations. So much money disappears in the pockets of the Administrators of so called "Humanitarian Organisations".

I like what they and we are doing too. You really feel it is making a difference to people that the group know. The mother of the girl we went the money to (which I think Vince has now sorted out) knitted him a jumper which was kind of her.

The leader of the group is very familiar with a lot of the areas so Vince is seeing places where many tourists are not able to visit.
