Do you think smart people are arrogant?

I came to this questioning because I've been watching The Big Bang Theory series, and oh' I'm on Season 4 Episode 5 already. Anyway, I noticed that most of those who are a smart or intellectual person are arrogant and sometimes rude. Is it because they are too confident in their brain?
During my High School days, I have a classmate who is smart or he thinks he is smart because of how he pronounces words. Most of the time he got a high score in all of our subjects. But the thing is, he always brags. One time, he disputed about me giving him an X when checking his paper. He said that he was right about his answer which our Teacher already emphasize the correct answer. He started calling me pea brain.
One time, I could not get enough of his bullying. I punched him in the face and told him if I don't have a brain I would not be in the first section, you dingbat! All of my classmates were shocked about what happened. The next thing I know I was inside our faculty room.

When I was working in a call center company here.
Some of our Team Leaders or even agents are too confident about to call themselves smart.
I also know people who are smart yet too humble.
I was not. The faculty let that classmate of mine apologized to me because he was the one who did the bully the first time.

That classmate of yours sounds like he deserved what he got.
I think, like a lot of things, the loud minority give the whole group a bad name. I've read things about people with higher IQs having lower EQs and social skills. I can see how that could be true as they're often more logical than emotional.
However, I don't think it's fair to make a blanket statement that intellectual people are arrogant. I like to think I'm clever but don't think I'm arrogant but then I do know people who are intellectual snobs.

I don't fully agree that smart people are arrogant. There may be some. As the olds say : "In a bunch of coconuts, there's always one that is 'buang' ". Oftentimes, arrogance comes from upbringing; attitudes that they see in the house, they carry it over to the outside world. As Ms. Judy says, there are many smart people who are humble. Aside from upbringing, the people you go with (your barkada) has much influence on your behavior, that is why it is important to choose whom you associate with.

Well, not all smart people are arrogant. And you did the right thing, Bhem. If I were in your place, I’d probably do the same thing.
