Maybe Old Enough, But Parents Still Worries

Our daughter is now 27 going 28 year old on December 25, Christmas to the Catholics. She is now already a doctor on her second year of residency, specializing in General Surgery.
The other week, hubby was furious when he saw that our daughter posted at Fb pictures of them in a mountain in Tanay and showed them to me and one of those is this picture.
He commented if they asked the permission of the authorities before going up the mountain and she said no. And he told her that in those mountains there are rebels living and hiding there.
That they are doctors and if the rebels happen to see them, they might kidnap them and keep them in the mountain as their doctors!
Sure enough , my daughter said on the second day after doing the mountain climbing, that they came to know that there are rebels indeed there.
She asked for an apology from us for not informing us before going.
She maybe old enough, but we still would like to know that she is always safe in everything she does. .
I think all parents just want their children to be always safe, no matter how old they are already.

I don't think my parents will be worried about me after cutting ties with each other. They dont like me, so I don't like them too. They are happy with their grandkids and their business is doing well. I heard they are grab operators.

She's okay. They only discovered that there are NPAS thete when my husband commented like that, so she asked on those who knows the situation there. She was shocked.

@Mavic123456 Yes, they may not be harming locals but they get professionals like doctors when it's needed.

@SIMPLYD but usually NPAs are not harming locals. I never thought it is still existing in Tanay, I am from Rizal as well that's why I was surprised to hear this.
But good to know that she's okay.

@sunrisefan She's as tall as I am but slimmer. She added weight before taking the residency. Now, she's thinner.

Yes, that's a parent's untold thing because I won't demean the feeling by saying it is a responsibility.. But what do you mean by rebels?

@anya12adwi I think some countries will always have dissatisfied citizens thus they chose to be rebels and live in mountains and underdeveloped places for obscurity.

@SIMPLYD Oh, it is amusing to know the intricate facts of another country.. Here we have rebels, but they are rooted in under-developed areas and they use violence too. We term them as Mao..

Our children would always be our beloved treasures no matter how old they are or how old we are, it's okay for us to worry, not just worry but give good sound advice so long as our fears are well founded, I think you did the right thing.

@louievill That's how we are too to our children. They will always be children in our eyes and hearts.

Thank you. I know that as parents you will say that. Yes, she maybe old, but for us she's still our little child and I think it will remain that way forever.
That's how my parents also treat us. They always would ask if we still have money for ourselves and whatever.

@SIMPLYD my mother is 85 going 86 but she still sees me as her little boy and worries when I could well by God's grace stand up for myself, protect and provide for our whole household and family, I dont blame her, I would probably be the same to my children in case I reach her age.

it's always better to talk to the authorities first so they can rescue you in case something happens, like if you get lost/disoriented/injured, or if the weather suddenly changes, like sudden and heavy rains.

@hereandthere I eventually found my way. I finished my assignment in 7 days and it was good i finished early because I received notice to report for work from one of the banks I applied in.

Right after graduation, I worked for the NSO to do a 10-day census in a mountain barangay in my home city. I'd walk miles and miles early morning carry a heavy load of forms and "baon" alone and one time I did not know that I strayed into NPA country. All around was sugarcane as far as your eyes can see. Good thing I did not encounter any of them.

That was a very potentially dangerous ordeal.
Its too bad, but sometimes young people need to get a good scare to realize that its not so bad to take the advise from Mom and Dad.
I would have been worried sick too, I'm glad that all that happened was that everyone got scared, hopefully a lesson as learned.

Parents always worry about their children regardless of age. With the high incidence of crime and the typhoons and floods, we were always worried with our older daughter when she was still working in Makati for 6 years. Sometimes she'd go home from the office at past midnight. We are now relieved that she and her younger sister are both in NZ. At least they have each other to look after.

Yes, us too. She would tell us tat she's meeting a girl friend in this place and she has to take a taxi! Oh how we worry for her. Then , she will go home alone on a Grab Taxi. How I pray that she will be safe. I call on my guardian angel to tell her guardian angel to look after her.

I guess reading your post made me realise my mum’s sentiments. There are some days when I feel like I’m getting smothered by too much overprotectiveness. I really just wanted to spread my wings but sometimes my mum holds me back.
Maybe it’s really parental instincts.

@SIMPLYD yeah. Chris hates that his birthday is on Christmas Day. It's always a reminder of him getting older.

That was quite a risk. I used to hike with NGO workers to immerse in indigenous communities. Our COs (Community Organizers) make it a point to inform authorities and community leaders of our visit. I've met a few who've been with the insurgency but they never harmed us.

Actually, some rebels don't harm people. But what if they are in dire need of doctors such as my daughter and officemates when they went to that mountain.
It must be a nerve wrecking experience, to deal with people whom you know are formerly insurgents.
I actually experienced going to a remote place with my group of friends. There is one jeepney of people. We ate together only to find out from the priest friend who is the parish priest in that chapel, after those people were gone, that they were NPA. Oh my! Good thing we didn't talk about insurgency.
