I’m Sorry but I Don’t Have Cash in Me

Lately, I encountered a woman in the street when I go outside to buy a candy in the distant store because the one nearest to us was closed. I did not bring other cash except that money enough for me to buy.
As our way comes close, she showed me a piece of paper and it’s a prescription paper but I didn’t have the time to read it. She asked me for some money but I wasn’t able to hand her some because I don’t have money except those few pennies enough to buy me candies. It was just quick encounter and I realized that I should have at least guided her to the proper place to where she could ask.
I spend a couple of minutes thinking that I might have done something to at least help the woman. I felt guilt inside of me but I really don’t have the money.
Was the woman did not really know what places to go on seeking help similar like hers? She could at least visit some local offices of the government.
I might be judgmental if I would think that she just used it to collect alms as there are many the same cases I encountered in the past. They would show you piece of paper while others even gave you an envelope. They would say that they needed for help because their relatives died or in the hospital.

@ZedSmart there is a possibility just like that. I remember my experience, there was an old woman who sells vegetables on the corner of the market. just a small space with a small table and lots of different vegetables. I always buy from her because you know old woman and small space. Then one time without my routine market day I went to the market, about closing time. OMG I saw she was loading her vegetables in a beautiful, brand new SUV

Hope she is not scamming you, somebody tried to do that to me before, no problem I could give her money but first I asked what's ailing you? " and she told me, next I said " let me look at the prescription " she showed it to me, I said " this prescription is not for your illness" then I asked " where are you from? " She told me a "sitio" in our "Barangay," then I ask to name me somebody she knows there, she could not, then I identified myself as a " kagawad" ( as I was during that time) she left in a hurry

It leaves us with a guilt feeling. But many of them are scammers and should not be encouraged.

@ZedSmart That always leaves us confused... whether it is a genuine thing or a scam. I try to ignore it.
