Back before the "instant connections" we have today, we voted politicians into their offices on the basis of their personas (or personae) ... first 'what we heard about them in gossip & their speeches in the public square,' then 'what we read about them in the paper,' then 'what we see on television (both "what they do" and "what experts say about them").' Now--although all that 'noise' still has some influence--we can get straight to 'deciding who best "represents" us' by answering the questions at iSideWith (the same "quiz" they give the candidates-themselves), and seeing which candidate answers the questions just like we would. (There's a chance the candidates could use this to 'hack' elections--answering their quizzes with 'the majority-answer' no matter what "their actual answer" would be--but I trust that iSideWith thinks of that and questions the candidates in a way that their answer can't be swayed by "research on voter's opinions.") See https://www.headcount.org/resources-isidewith/ what a Jersey Girl with a BA in Political Science has to say about it! But I (a college-dropout Okie) ... I don't see any other way to make my voting-decisions! I mean; if I knew any of the midterm-candidates, I could base my votes on 'Do I think this person would be a good that office-er?' But not knowing any of them ... in the past, I based my vote simply on 'Whose name sounds the coolest?' It is kinda sad that (as I'm looking at my absentee-ballot I'll mail-in in a week or two) iSideWith tells me that there are two BETTER candidates that AREN'T EVEN ON THE BALLOT ANYMORE! Not to mention that 90% of the offices on the ballot AREN'T LISTED ON MY iSideWith ballot! Still, I hope it can be of use to you ... or is there a voting-aid online that's better?

@mythociate - just keep an ear to the news. if something catches your interest, look into it yourself. i dont do any of that social media stuff.

I had not heard of that one. I still mostly watch the t.v to get an idea.

Is there a show that talks about all the people running in your local elections?

@mythociate No, I just watch the debates if I am undecided. Then try to tell who is the best liar.

Better go with our gut feelings and common sense.

What if you've never even heard of some of the candidates on the ballot?

@mythociate _Besides googling news about them, I'd look into their Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn accounts.
