A pasta review from The Horse?

I eat a lot of Asian food, even at home, and I knew it was time for a break. I tried two different kinds of ravioli from Trader Joe's, one filled with pumpkin, and the other filled with goat cheese and sundried tomato. Over the course of a couple of weeks, I tried both several times (mostly for lunch) with my usual Trader Joe's (pre-fab) pasta sauce, topped with a grated Parmesan/Romano mix. Of course I added a bit of onion, garlic, and green pepper to the sauce. For me, the run-away winner was the tomato and goat cheese ravioli. The pumpkin pasta was good, but I found the sweetness of the pumpkin to be "invasive," rather than "enhancing." Perhaps it would do better with another kind of sauce. Do you eat pasta? What are your favorite kinds? That's my pasta review for today.

I’m too busy scarfing down Chuy’s salsa to stop and contemplate pumpkin ravioli at the moment.

Um, are you using chips or something? Or are you just putting your head in the jar, like Pooh with hunny?

@TheHorse I LOVE pasta dishes. I love beef ravioli with ....hmmm I keep forgetting which sauce it was. Garlic..and something...I forget but I love it. Another pasta dish I love to make is Pesto Chicken Fettuccine. I add pine nuts and sometimes snow peas in it.

Sounds good! Do you wind up with garlic breath, though?

@TheHorse haha nah. It's not a strong garlic taste. I actually remember the sauce now. It's like tomato, basil and garlic sauce. Tastes really nice when mixed with the ravioli.

This has the same basic flavor. But I liked the cheese inside the ravioli.

@bunnybon7 I'll keep getting this stuff. But I'll keep my eyes open for a better alternative as well.

I like most pastas in moderation but ravioli is probably my least favourite.

I didn't grow up a big fan, but I enjoy a small serving of these with my typical pasta sauce on top.

Pumpkin ravioli must not be served with a tomato sauce, but with melted butter with some sage leaves added and black pepper on top. I have ricotta in the refrigerator, I could use it to make ravioli... if I am a little less lazy later.

I loved their Gorgonzola ravioli but they discontinued it years ago. Pumpkin ravioli just sounds sweet.

Yep. Sweet. As in real sweet. Not "slang" sweet.

I love pasta filled with ricotta cheese. It's a bit dry tasting, but with spaghetti sauce, greenpepper, onion, and garlic it's delicious! Parmesan/Romano sprinkled over the top, also.

@TheHorse When I make lasagna, it's good with layers of cottage cheese and mozzarella.

My favorite pasta is the perogi. Like ravioli they can be filled with anything. Potato, green onion and feta cheese with sour cream and chives sauce are my favorite.

@Marty1 Pierogi is my all time favorite pasta. I make my own sometimes when the grocery doesn't have my favorite ready made.

Do you have Trader Joe's where you live? I used to have to "coyote" TJ's stuff to my brother in Spokane. But I think the have TJ's up there now.
