Should America Switch To Popular Vote?

Lots of liberals and democrats are saying that twice the republicans lost in the presidential elections by popular votes. Hillary Clinton claims that she won by popular votes. Do you think it is time for America to discard the electoral college and switch to popular vote? And how about giving the millions of illegal immigrants the right to vote? I am sure the democrats and liberals would welcome these changes with inimitable glee! Would these changes good or bad for Americans?

no, because states like california and new york will eventually be deciding the laws and policy of the country. i dont think the other 48 states, especially middle amererica, would like it. illegal immigrants shouldnt vote, they are non-citizens. how would other countries like it if another countries citizens were to cast votes in their countries affairs.

It is the case in the EU, but only for local elections, and I find that fair : if you live, work and pay taxes in a city, why would not you vote for the mayor ? This said, it is not opened to illegal immigrants, only for people from an EU country living in another EU country, but we are thinking to extend it to all legal immigrants.

@Plethos All Europeans elect the EU parliament, have a freedom of move and work inside the EU, they are not really strangers but EU citizens. And I forgot : they can, not only vote, but also be elected to city councils. We have 2700 EU citizens elected in France.

@antonbunot You make my point so well. Democracy is great so long as you're on the winning side.

@jstory07 Be careful the Hollywood so-called celebrities, liberals, and democrats might come after you. They want open border to let all latinos come to the USA so that democrats will be in power forever. Crazy people. . .

There is not real democracy if the vote is not a popular vote. As Latin said "vox populi, vox Dei" (voice of people, voice of God).

@antonbunot They let them vote because their votes count nothing. The politicians finally decide who the winner is.

@antonbunot I should shut up because if there are corrupted politicians in the world, those are the Italian politicians and we see how Italy is in bad shape now.

@LadyDuck American politicians are corrupt.. and many of them are selfish .. they don’t care about the American people. They do stupid things just to gain power. Example is open border. Sanctuary cities .. they enter the country illegally and democrats protect them ....Stupid!

Getting rid of the electoral college would be a very bad idea. It puts too much weight on larger populated states which the electoral college helps to balance. As for illegal immigrants getting to vote? OMG! Why not just open up the world to our ballots? I mean, I'd be very interested to know how an election would go if say...Iran could vote.
