The Phone Rang at Night

I stayed up late reading last night. I just could not put the book down. I finally got off to sleep and a couple of hours later the phone rang. I woke up instantly and saw it was my son in NY who hung up right away. I called him back and found out that he was deleting stuff from his phone and accidentally dialed me. I told him I would go back to sleep. A late night phone call gets the adrenalin pumping so I could not sleep. I would be up early to go to my writer's group meeting this morning. I forgot to go the meeting. Some days, you just wonder.

I am always terrified by late phone calls. Last year, besides the 2 times the burglars entered and robbed at my house, I was called at night once. The person told me they had one of my daughters and they wanted ransom. The voice of my daughter called help. Fortunately, I had the other phone and called my daughter and she was at home, fast asleep. She did not believe me until the same thing happened to her. Bad guys get cellphones into prison and they have people outside to do their bad deeds.

Gosh, that's awful. Why do those things happen to you? How did they get your daughter's voice? Do you know who it was that did this? I hate night calls, they usually aren't anything good.

@akalinus I wish I know. Claudia had the same experience days later and it was Carolina´s voice. But Carolina was then in Spain. Still, the next day, she called her.

@marguicha How do they get the voices of someone in your family? Who does this stuff? Can't the police do anything about it?

I never think it is a ghost. I always think it is to tell me about something bad.

@anya12adwi I hate it when people start rumors like that. They only do it to hurt people. I can see why you aren't sure about this.

@akalinus There were many rumours but this had seated fear in my subconscious mind.. So, I get startled when I receive call at nights.. So, either I put my phone on aeroplane mode or I mute the ringtone

Oh yeah a middle of the night call always means something bad. Glad he is just a night owl playing with his phone.

Me too. Maybe it was good I did not go to the meeting. It got dark and rainy out and I was tired so I guess staying home was probably good.

Usually, those late calls tell you something important even though you don't want to hear it.

I know you were relieved it was an accidental call instead of a call about an accident though I imagine you were not too happy with him right after you got off the phone.

Yes, when I saw it was my son and saw that he hung up, I had to call back and see what awful news he would tell me.

Glad everything was ok. Mine had my text alerts going off a few nights ago. He was learning to work his new security system and set me as a backup.

Some of those phones are really complicated and each kind seems to work differently from other kinds. I wake up instantly when the text alert goes off.

@JudyEv I am sure it involved some sort of scam. Why would I get a call from another country from someone I don't know?

Yes, I know that feeling. A few years ago, I was getting a call every night from a Mr. Lee in Mexico City, a collect call. I have no idea who he was or why he was calling collect. I kept yelling that it was a wrong number and to never call here again. It went on for days.
