I've written that my husband and I go every afternoon to the large pond behind our house to feed the fish and toss corn out in the fields for the deer and bear.
With the state letting water out of a nearby dam, our creek and swamps have overflowed. The water has come up over the lane we use to drive to the pond, but so far we've been able to drive through it.
Day before yesterday, we not only fed the fish, but caught a few also with our fishing poles. Got some bream and nice sized bass. The pond covers about four or five acres, so there's plenty of space to fish. I love when we put the boat in and fish that way, too.
Saw some turtles, turkey buzzards (vultures), even five little deer which seemed surprisingly unafraid of us. Of course, they ran off as we got nearer.
Didn't see any snakes this time. Oh, we did see a couple of beautiful large white birds in the swamp. Egrets or Scoggins? Not sure, but they really are impressive.
My husband cleaned the fish when we got home, then yesterday fried them up with some hushpuppies while I stewed potatoes and onions and made sweet tea.
Fish is so much better when it's fresh. We ate and ate and I think I'm still full!
Do you like fresh fish? How do you cook it where you live?

Fish that we buy in the market had been refrigerated and in ice for quite sometime could it be that deterioration still takes place? Newly caught and cooked right away tastes so much different even if you just put some salt on it.

@1creekgirl The Philippines is a fish country lol, with 7.000 islands there is fish everywhere, so many kinds from common to exotic. We have so many ways to prepare it, the usual fry, grill in charcoal, fillet, and many other dishes that is unique to us. My wife likes large fish head sour soup ( made sour with different tropical fruits) I know Westerners don't like to eat the head but this is different, these are large ones that at times tastes better than meat.

@louievill That's very interesting. I expect you do have a lot of different ways to prepare fish.

@LadyDuck That sounds delicious. We batter them in dry corn meal, salt, and pepper, then deep fry them in vegetable shortening. Not especially healthy, but yummy!

Baked is definitely healthier than fried. Sometimes my husband cooks a fish stew if we have catfish or rock. Have you ever fixed it that way? He cooks the fish chunks in a broth with potatoes, onions, bacon, and boiled eggs.

Yes, I remember from years ago hearing about Catholics eating fish on Fridays. Is there a chance you might get to go fishing when you move to your new place?

@Courage7 I'm sure it's frustrating. Maybe all the trouble will be worth it, though. I pray it will be for you.

I haven't fished in many years but I enjoyed the fishing part but not the eating. I never liked fish unless you count shrimp

I'm not as big a fisherman as my husband (he still puts the bait on my hook for me!), but it's enjoyable and so peaceful. I love shrimp also!

There are endless ways to make fish. I might buy some today when I'm in town and have fish for dinner.
